Rosary with 6 decades- Please explain?

I have an old rosary with 6 decades. I know someone can help me understand what this is because I cannot figure it out.

Sounds like it is the Brigittine Rosary.(Chaplet of St. Bridget )

The chaplet of Our Lady of Sorrows (Servite Rosary) has 7 decades of 7 beads - but I’ve never seen one with 6. I love to make and give away rosaries and have studied many different chaplets. This one is new to me and I’d like to learn about it, too.

I often give “his and hers” rosaries to brides and grooms for their wedding. They are always so well received!

Thanks TONS, Marie! I looked it up and I am very happy about this. I am almost done completing the full year of saying the 15 St. Bridget prayers. I just found this rosary, so maybe it is a gift from heaven.

Thanks seek1st. The gift of a bride and groom rosary set is such an awesome gift. What a great idea.

Have you seen the Wedding and Anniversary rosaries which are two rosaries joined as one? They are awesome. A friend of mine makes them. Beautiful. Many Brides and Grooms or people renewing vows on their anniversary make it part of their wedding/anniversary ceremony to say the rosary together at Mary’s altar.

hmmm - I am not that saavy. I’ll work on that and maybe will be able to PM you with one.
 
This is the Brigittine rosary.
What little information there is about it tends to be confusing.
There are six decades, comprising one Our Father and ten Hail Mary’s, plus a pendant with an Additional Our Father and three Hail Mary’s.
Altogether, there are 63 Hail Mary’s, in honor of the number of years Mary is thought to have lived (The Franciscan Crown has her age as 72, however!) The total of 7 Our Fathers is said in honor of her Seven Sorrows.
There is also the Servite Devotion of the Seven Sorrows, with 7x(1+7 )beads!

The Franciscan Crown, with seven decades, is based on the seven Joys of Mary.
 
I have just returned back from Lourdes on a pilgrim trip with my church and had a very good guide called Susan.
Having given us a tour and explanation of all the visits we made, Susan mentioned the 6 decade rosary that is called the Bernadette rosary, this is the rosary that the Immaculate Conception had over her right arm, it was clear that the decades were 6 as each of the our father beeads were gold plated.

The explanation given was that the decades represented the three mysteries of the rosary the joyful, the sorrowfull and, the glorious.
By counting the beads they came to 62 this was the age of the Mother of God whe. She went to Heaven.
Each of the our father beads represented the 7 sorrows of Mary.

The 6th Decadevon The rosary is prayers for Holy Souls in Pugatory.
 
It is known as the Carmelite Rosary or the Brigittine Rosary
 
Before I read the thread i thought that the maker had simply miscounted 😉 it happens… Sometimes,always a man,will stand by the stall and literally count all the decades , trying to fault me… I once accidentally sold a 4 decade rosary to an old man. We had run out of beads for the fifth decade and they were so pretty we could not bear to destroy the work. He was a very traditional man and came back the following week to complain so we exchanged it of course…,
 
In the LaSallian tradition (Christian Brothers), the 6th decade is in honor of the mystery of the Immaculate Conception.
 
I am working on a Rosary right now and I am planning on 6 decades… 30 beads to wire and thread to go. I have to memorize these additional meditations for future prayer and hot to grow in Wisdom and Virtue. I am about 9 hours into them now.
