Is it okay to substitute the Nicene Creed instead of the Apostle’s Creed in the Rosary? I just can’t memorize it, it gets too muddled with the Nicene one (which is so much easier for me to remember, since we use it in Mass). Is that okay? Do you think Mary would care?

The rosary is a private devotion meaning you can do what you want. I personnally believe the Nicene Creed is more powerful and I might start saying it myself for the rosary. If I could just remember it all.😦
 
I would tend to think the Apostle’s Creed would be the proper form and would be what actually forms the “Rosary”. I would think that it would be similar to a recipe where you substitute ingredients, you come out with a perfectly acceptable devotion, but it is not a rosary.

As the Rosary has certain indulgences attached, I believe learning the Apostle’s Creed would be appropriate.

From the information I have gathered, the Rosary is the decades. One OF and 10 HMs. The rest is nice but not required. The Franciscan Crown sticks to this simplicity.

I might note that the Legion of Mary, for their rosary recitation, substitute an Invocation to the Holy Spirit in place of the preliminary prayers used by most people.

The Rosary is a private devotion so you can say whatever prayers you want.
However, the Apostles Creed is the normal Creed used with the Rosary. For me the Apostles Creed is easier to remember. Its shorter and praying the Rosary daily easy to pick up.

No, the rosary is the entire set of prayers. It is a method to meditate on events of Christ’s life. Basically, yes, we have the 5 decades, but we also open and close the Rosary, the same way we have introductory rites and concluding rites at Mass, where the center of the Mass is the Eucharist, (along with the Readings), it is bookended by the intro and closing rites. The same goes for the Rosary.

As has been said, it is a personal devotion. People begin and end however they want to, if they even want to. Focusing only on the decades is just one of many ways to recite the Rosary.
 
According to the booklet “Scripturally Based Rosary” by the (Rosary Confraternity)Rosary Center http:www.rosary-center.org

" The prayers that precede and follow the five decades of the Rosary are not essential to the Rosary according to an official Church source (Cf. Enchiridian of Indulgences, p.67) The Dominican manner of praying the Rosary includes the prayers that follow the decades,but not those that precede them."

So if I’m not mistaken,either version of the Creed should be fine.🙂

I use a Catholic book of prayers to say the parts of the Rosary I can’t remember… 😉 helps me a lot. God bless.
