The Rosary was given to St. Dominic by Our Lady to help defeat the Albigeneas don’t know if thats spelled right ] Heresy. Our Lady of Fatima requested that we pray it every day to bring Peace. Hope this helps

Those shorter methods look good but should they be used as opposed to the longer methods? Would that be considered slothfulness or laziness?

I don’t know if the rosary was actually given to Our Lady to St. Dominic or not, literally speaking. That is a very pious tradition, however.

The rosary is connected to the eastern Christian chotki, which is also a set of prayer beads. There is evidence that Latin Catholics used those in medieval times.

The rosary is also tied to praying the psalms, and was often used as a replacement for praying the Liturgy of the Hours in earlier times. There is a great book (it’s a modern, secular, academic book, but it’s still good history) on the history of the rosary called *Stories of the Rose *by A. Winston-Allen.

I have a huge devotion to the rosary, carry it almost all the time, like to give them to others, and try to pray it every day!

The beads have been a long tradition of Christians, Jews and Muslim. But the format we now call the Rosary was revealed in an appariton of the Virgin Mary to St. Dominic on or about the year 1245.
