It is a devotion and so a person can not pray it at all, pray one decade, pray all five decades, pray fifteen decades - as on a full rosary. A full rosary is often prayed by religious. (Usually what is spoken of as a rosary contains five decades.) Essentially it’s up to the person.

People generally pray one 5 decade Rosary a day, more or less is perfectly acceptable.

How many times should we pray the rosary?
👍👍 As brigid12 said, “it’s up to the person”.

Like most people, I try to do 5 decades. For the 1st 5 decades, I generally do the ones that are recommended for the day, and then I try to do the 5 Sorrowful Mysteries (unless it’s Tuesday or Friday, in which case, I’ll do the Glorious or something) since I consider it as a good daily meditation on the Passion, which I think is good spiritually for a person, and is most pleasing to our Lord, and is recommended by many Saints (meditation on the Passion, that is).

As much as you possibly can. It’s an important prayer, and it will bring you closer to Mary and our Lord.

Please pray at least one five decade mystery every day. I don’t pray the Luminous Myst. so I pray the Joyful Mysteries on Thursday. Pray the Rosary every day!!:signofcross:

Daily Reflections of Saint Padre Pio: On Mary and the Rosary

How many Rosaries

February 6, 1954 9:00 PM, to father Carmelo: “I still have 2 rosaries to pray today. I said only 34 so far. Then I will go to bed.”

Answering to Padre Michelangelo: “Today I said 32 or 33 rosaries. Maybe 1 or 2 more.”

Answering to Padre Mariano da Magliano Santa Croce: “About 30. Maybe some more, but not less.” ‘How do you do it? “What is the night for?”

Answering a question: “Some days I say 40 Rosaries, some other days 50.” How do I do it? “How do you manage not so say any?”

To Lucia Pennelli one morning around 7:00 AM after Mass: “How many rosaries did you say so far today?” ‘Two”. “I already said seven.”

To Lucietta Pennelli, one day at about noon: “Today I have already said 16 complete Rosaries.”

Padre Alessio Parente asked Padre Pio why he would constantly say the rosary and no other prayers. Padre Pio: “Because the Madonna never refuses me anything that I ask through the prayer of the rosary."

Awesome! The Saint’s devotion to the Rosary was like eating potatoe chips, you can’t have just one… 🙂
But seriously, I find this very encouraging. Surely it was a grace to allow him to achieve this. I someday hope to pray at least one ‘complete’ Rosary throughout my day.
Padre Alessio Parente asked Padre Pio why he would constantly say the rosary and no other prayers. Padre Pio: “Because the Madonna never refuses me anything that I ask through the prayer of the rosary.
I’m sure the Saint had plenty of intentions and plenty of souls to pray for, but we ought to remember not to have one of the false devotions…
An interested devotion where we go to the Blessed Mother to obtain some particular favor as if she were a vending machine where we put in a prayer hoping to get a desirable favor in return. We should have a disinterested devotion. We should go to her because we love her not because of what she will do for us.
Another of the false devotions…
An exterior devotion where we say our prayers just to get through them but don’t put any depth into our prayers. It is better to pray one decade of the rosary well than to rush through an entire rosary.

Mary’s life was not all honor and glory. It was suffering and sorrow. We are called to imitate all of her life and to leave behind all false devotions to cling to her in love alone.
In the words of St. Louis de Montfort consecration to Jesus through Mary is the easiest and surest path to heaven.
Our Lord blessed us with a beautiful Mother who cares for us and prays for us.

For padre pio , praying the rosary is like eating potato chips, you can’t have just one. It’s interesting:o
