Just a personal view!
I actually find that group rosaries are too rushed and noisy for me! I prefer the private version! Considering the “formula 1” pace, some are conducted in public, they do give ammunition to those who attack it as “vain repetion”
The rosary is a mediation not just a spoken set of prayers, and it is easy to lose the mysteries entirely in trying to keep up with pace of recitation of prayers. So I think it needs time to remind yourself of them, considering the scriptures that underly each one.
There are several things happened in the garden at gethsemane, several stages of our lord’s vilification at the sanhedrin and leading up to scourging, several stations of the cross both in carrying the cross, the falls and so on, and yet more on the cross itself. Not just the nails but also “behold your mother”, “forgive them , they know not what they do” and so on. So I often remind myself of each before each “hail mary”
So for me at least the private rosary is a much more meditative prayer - rather different from the public version.
It is also worth looking up other and similar devotions too, to ring the changes a little.
The old “rosary of seven sorrows” made known by St Bridgit of Sweden was reawakened recently by one of the visionaries (marie claire) at Kibeho. There is a small book my Immaculee ilibagiza about it (whose other works are well worth the read)
