There are times that I pray the Rosary while I’m driving or in a waiting room somewhere, only I don’t have access to the mysteries. I don’t have them memorized so I just say 1st mystery, 2nd mystery, etc. Am I wasting my time…more importantly Her time saying it without the mysteries? Does it count? From what I’ve read here it seems the most important part of the Rosary is meditating on the the mysteries and not the Hail Marys and Our Fathers. Can I continue to do this or is it inappropriate? Thanks.

Lexee, God Bless you! I just want to tell you that you must be so beautiful to God and to Our Lady, just from what I can gather from the sincerity of your posts.

🙂

Anyway, I don’t think you should worry at all about not remembering the mysteries, as if that somehow would invalidate your prayer. All prayer is of immense supernatural value.

If you don’t think you can remember the traditonal mysteries (or write them down and have them on your car’s sun visor!) then I would just pick different moments of Christ’s life, or Mary’s life and meditate on those as you pray.

Even without the mysteries, the Rosary is a garland of “Hail Mary’s” for Our Mother.

What do you think?

God Bless you Lexee,
VC

I have a holy card about the size of a credit card that has them on it.

If God wanted us to remember everything He would…I forgot what I was going to say. 🙂

I’ve thought about the problem of not knowing the mysteries and what days etc. I was thinking of making up a little recipe card that I could put in my car/pocket or whatever as a reminder. (When you get to my age you can’t remember diddly squat.http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon9.gif)
**We must be the same age! 👍

What about a Rosary CD? I just purchased one.**

Well learning to pray something that powerful is like learning how to ride a bike. You’re still learning…that’s okay!! I’m sure Mary would rather have you saying one or two decades than nothing anyway! The more you pray it, the easier it will become.

Feel free to meditate on your own mysteries. Just pick a Biblical event and think about it. Miracles of Jesus, some stations of the cross, different events in the New Testament, etc.

When I first was learning the rosary, my mom gave me a rosary in which each “Our Father” bead was a three sided medal with the mysteries (this was before the Luminous mysteries).

In any case, the prayers of the rosary are very pleasing in Heaven. They are so scriptural. Sometimes, even when reciting the mystery, I am not recollected enough to meditate anyway.

👋 Hi Lexee15!

May our Lord and lady Bless you richly this day.

I do not have the mysteries wholly committed to memory either - what I used to do (and still do sometimes) is recite and meditate on the 10 commandments. One for each bead, all the way around - not only does this help in the traditional respect of the commandments (their literal sense)…but in their spiritual nature as well…and it helps me to keep track while at work, when actually using the rosary is impractical, or driving, or doing any other daily task.

Otherwise what I do as well - is meditate on any glorious, joyful or sorrowful mystery that comes to mind…like the Trinity for instance. Because the #1 purpose of the Rosary, is to bring us closer to God through understanding Him - as completely as we are able, through Our Lady.

Sometimes I find that I actually am meditating on the recommended mysteries - which are NOT set in stone BTW. But really:anything will work - problems (our own or others), praise, resting in His presence, Bible verses, meditations from booklets, literally anything. Offer up what you are doing at the moment to God through the Rosary…it is a tool for us to use to praise, worship, and Glorify God with…in the pursuit of performing His will. Not a magical talisman or something 😛 , It is the sincerity of our hearts that counts…not the ritual performed, or performing it exactly.

Glory to God
Peace
John
