Whats the origins of the wearing of rose chasuble at mass today.

That’s very true. The “rose” vestments at our parish could be described as somewhere between bubble gum and pepto bismal pink.

To be fair, the violet normally seen in the US tends to lean more toward the blue end than the “Roman violet” which tended more towards a violet red.

The reason I mention it is that a violet red and dusty rose are almost dark and medium versions of the same color. If those colors were used during the advent and lent seasons it might be easier to see the linkage of Gaudete (or Laetare) Sunday being a “brightening” during the penitential seasons.

The royal purple and pink often seen today tend to lose that visual linkage of gradation of color versus two visually different colors.
 
Yes, and if you think about it, the Son in about to shine and when you have a sunrise, some of the first colors that you see in the sky is the rose color’s!

Some parishes don’t have the rose colored vestments. It’s not required that they be worn on the two Sundays in Advent and Lent; it is permitted. Some parishes choose not to spend the money for a vestment that is only worn twice per year.

From what I understand, the use of rose vestments dropped off in the late 60s mid 70s and its only been in the last decade or two that they have made a comeback. In that case it could be that they were never replaced along with other liturgical colors.

That or the priest does not like the rose vestments available (i.e. they have them available, but they dislike them for any number of reasons)

It’s one thing to replace say green vestments that are worn hundreds of times a year versus replacing those that are allowed, but not required, only twice per year. In those cases they might just chose to skip the rose and replace and use the voilet set that would see more use.
