I’ve picked up on the controversey about the position of Jews who convert to catholicism. It seems to me, they want to keep their unique Jewish practices, saying they are cultural, not theological in content and meaning. Something more, the Jews have their own salvation based on the unique position of the Jews in history. A lot of this is confusing, to say the least. Where does culture end and theology begin-if that is a discrete point at all? What implications does this have for the community of believers unity is Christ?
I am not addressing the situation in the middle east. I support the right of all to live unhindered because of race, religion, or national origin.
I wonder, sometimes, if there isn’t some fallout from Holocaust times and its recent resurgence. Feeling a little, we allow some questionable attitudes to creep in, whose impact is far larger than is suspected at the time. I know I’m not phrasing this clearly, but I am trying.
Related to this-what do you know about Yom HaShoah? Is this something the church participates in?
