RSV-CE Needs Corrections

This is the (* Oxford University Press) Bible I have been waiting for since November.

This is not a “second edition” but what I’m expecting it to be, is a full size, quality leather, Catholic RSVCE Bible. I have the “compact” one and if this is the same only "full size” I’m going to be very pleased…Can’t wait.
I am returning my Ignatius second edition, the gold is flaking off, I’m really not comfortable reading “yellow” pages, and the Burgundy leather is not my ideal for a leather Bible. These are the cosmetics but the most important thing I’ve noticed is comparing the text to my Oxford University Press compact RSVCE and this new “second” edition…Not such a big deal to get excited about. My Haydock Douay Rheims is my meat & potatoes, the RSVCE, NAB (old & new) and NJB are my vegetables, and my Navarre series along with my Catechism are the desert!

Having my Haydock Douay as my “study bible” and other bibles to compare text is what I guess I meant. Reading (studying) only one bible is fine,but when I read the NAB,and then re -read the same passages in my RSVCE,or my Navarre ,I get a very good idea of what the passage is saying.I look at each verse through my Catholic Glasses and just like hearing music,when that sour note is hit ,it can be recognized instantly,that’s why I have my Haydock and Catechism as a foundation,the others are for comfortable easy reading.I know the Blessed Mother was, and is, ever Virgin,Thy ,thine ,etc. …those things don’t bother me,I know what the church teaches,what does bother me is when my non Catholic brothers and sisters can’t read and understand passages like Jn 6:51 and Math 16: 18-19 .
I enjoy reading my NAB,I also enjoy reading my RSVCE ,when I notice something that makes me stop and ponder , I go to my Haydock,If I really want to dive deep into a reading, I see how all of my versions renders the passage!

Er, I may just be having a downturn in IQ, but what’s the significance of “can,” “shall,” and “will” in this passage?

Otherwise known, in layman’s terms as, What’s the big deal?

porthos, I’m with you there, as that is nowhere near as key as the “young woman”/“virgin”, “full of grace”/“favored one” type distinctions. I am prepared to accept the RSV-SCE with some minor imperfections like that, since no translation is perfect.
