Actually, I find the whole conversation baffling. A translation is just a translation. Some are better than others, and none are perfect. Also: Each one usually gets at least one thing right that all the others get wrong. Read them all I say, but don’t freak out over it.
No one is freaking out. Yeah, they get a bit of blood raised but, I doubt anyone has punched any holes into their walls at home.

Still I would say translations matter. Though I am fine if a translation has a “Nihil Obstat” or the “Imprimatur”. Many translations of the bible are written in such a way to convince the reader to adhere to certain types of Christianity, or in the cases of the JWs another type of religion all together.

Don’t try to throw us off; you know what I mean. DAS, which you have refused to accept, is an Encyclical of the Holy Father Pope Pius XII, and has not been superseded by anything else on that matter.
I haven’t refused to accept the “Divino Afflante Spiritu” or as you refer to it a DAS. and before you just said holy father which lead me to think you were talking about Pope Benedict XVI. I have nothing but the highest regard for Pius XII and his encyclical. His encyclical isn’t the only encyclical out there. I don’t care for the RSV-CE and I never will. I like reading out of my Douay-Rheims and I haven’t found another translation that I really like. If that offends you so be it. I have my views and you have yours. Lets leave it at that

Not high enough apparently, to accept the state of original-language scholarship.

I guess I get that for trying to end a discussion.Just because I don’t agree with your or Jimmy Akin, that makes me a person who doesn’t accept church authority??? You and Jimmy Akin are just average people. The Pope is just an average joe with a little more insight through his spirituality in Christ. He is a good man, but he is just your average joe trying to lead Christ Church. I hate to be rude, but you are just too Bullheaded to see other side of the spectrum. Just because I dislike a translation doesn’t mean I disagree with the church. I have yet to read a translation I like outside the Douay-Rheims, but that is my opinion and my opinion only. Do I want to try other translations?? Sure, I do. I but I am not going to push some translation that I don’t feel that is fit. In this this case I don’t feel the RSV-CE is fit. You attack the NAB. Oh its horrible, its horrible, everyone should use the RSV-CE. NO!!! A person is going to use and promote the translation they see fit for themselves and others for the benefit of the Church. Again, I honestly think the RSV-CE is just bringing in Protestant views into the Catholic Church. BUT THAT IS MY OPINION.

…The Pope is just an average joe with a little more insight through his spirituality in Christ. He is a good man, but he is just your average joe trying to lead Christ Church…
Yah, he’s just your average, everyday, successor of Saint Peter. They’re a dime a dozen. <>

The only person in my eyes that isn’t average is Christ himself. Christ is superior to everyone period. The Pope is just like you and I. His earthly duties may be more explicit in detail, because he is called on not only by the God or the College of Cardinals, but the Church itself. The Pope does many thing the same way we do. Yes, he does some things differently but he is just an average joe like you and me.

How many “average Joe’s” speak 15 languages, are masters in scripture, philosophy, theology, and ecclesilogy; are professors, and have written numerous books on the faith?

Sorry bro, but His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI is NOT an “average Joe”, and his background makes his opinion far more informed than yours.

Are you really a Catholic ?

.

.

BTW, you would have known that I am Catholic if you took time too look at my profile details

Anyone can write a profile. I’m looking more at your statements about the Pope, the Bishop of Rome, the Vicar of Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the State of the Vatican City, Servant of the Servants of God**…**
**…**the “average Joe” in your eyes who you don’t even feel is qualified to condone the use of a certain Bible translation.

Senator Kennedy is a “Catholic” too… …a worthless Catholic as far as I’m concerned. Being Catholic is not a free pass to belittle the Vicar of Christ on Earth

I am not belittling him. The Pope has been called to lead the life of spirituality in the glory of God. He is the only divine. No one can do what God can do. The Pope leads us to Christ, but he is no better than you and me. I sin, you sin, and the Pope sins. The Pope isn’t perfect.He is our leader on earth and we should have respect for him, but he is no better than me. He isn’t infallible, but rejecting the Pope is rejecting Christ. Papal Infalliblity. He has a great in depth knowledge that many of us will not ever have. The Pope goes through the same things we do in life. The only person that isn’t the average Joe is Christ. When Christ chose his apostles, they were just average Joe’s that people knew. It is true that the apostle’s faced a lot of criticism, but yet they are average in comparison of the Lord. The Pope is average in comparison of the Lord. None of them can come close to the greatness of the Lord, but indeed they were/are the most important figures of the Church. They were just ordinary men who got a very special calling. But that doesn’t make them more average than you are I. Christ is more than average. Some of them deserve more respect and veneration, but they are average Joe’s doing the Lords work.

I never said that said that he isn’t qualified to condone the use of a certain Bible translation either.

Yes Senator Kennedy is Catholic is well. What gives you the right to say he is a worthless Catholic? Sure he’s isn’t the best person in the world nor is the best liked. I am not a big fan of Senator Kennedy, but saying that he is a worthless Catholic is just wrong. What if someone told you that you were a worthless Catholic?? What gives them the authority to tell you that you are a worthless Catholic?? They don’t . That would be wrong to tell anyone that they are worthless Catholics

Jimmy Akin? When did I mention Jimmy Akin?

Average joe. Hmmm. Who’s written several books, headed the Church’s top doctrinal body for many years, got elected Pope, wrote more books and encyclicals since then, and of course, empowered to exercise the ordinary and extraordinary Magisterium, and holder of the keys.

NAB=Church doesn’t approve.
RSV-CE=Church approve
Vulgate=Church approve
Nova Vulgata=Church approve
Douay-Rheims=Church approve
Original languages=Church approve

Nope, I see just clearly. We simply approve what the Church approves, and study what the Church wants us to study. It’s the Church’s opinion that matters to us.

NAB=Church doesn’t approve.
.

NAB as a whole was not rejected just the psalms that were revised in 1991, correct me if I am wrong. If the Church didn’t approve it as a whole then it wouldn’t be in the lectionaries.

NAB 1970=approved
NAB 1986 NT=not approved. Lectionaries required adjustment and now do not match published NAB’s.
NAB 1991 Psalms=completely rejected.
