I’m looking for rubrics or any sources of information on the proper way to do a Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

It’s just a plain old country parish. Were not trying to do some solemn high pontifical thing with three bishops and ten subdeacons or something. Just a deacon and an altar server.

You know… Exposition, O Salutaris, prayer, Tantum ergo, "You have given them bread from Heaven (let us pray), blessing with the Blessed Sacrament, divine praises, Holy God We Praise Thy Name, repose.

It’s mostly for my own information in the context of serving the deacon. I’d like to be a better server.

Do you have access to a Adoremus Hymnal? They have a nice description near the back.

or just watch EWTN for Benediction and Adoration.

I’ll second that–get the Adoremus Hymnal. It has everything that you mentioned–all the songs, the divine praises, the prayer of the priest/deacon, etc. The only thing that it doesn’t tell you is when to get the humeral veil for the priest/deacon (do this after he says the prayer) and when to use incense and bells (the priest/deacon incenses the Blessed Sacrament during intial exposition, and again prior to benediction, and the servers incense and ring the bells during the benediction itself as the deacon/priest brings the monstrance back to center in his blessing).

There is another book that our rector uses. I think it’s called something like “Rite for the Exposition and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.” It’s a large (legal paper size?) green covered book. It has some really lengthy praises, quite a bit longer than the minimum set of Divine praises you’ll find in the Adoremus Hymnal. Our priest chants these longer praises and the congregation answers. It’s fairly heavenly.

But the Adoremus Hymnal has everything you need for a very nice Exposition and Benediction.

We normally have a priest or deacon do the benediction, plus one or two servers. It’s nice to have two servers; one to get the humeral veil and hold it for the priest/deacon while he fastens it, and the other server to handle the incense while that’s going on. Plus with two servers you can do incense and bells. With only one server, one of the congregation (normally yours truly) handles the bells. Incense and bells really, really add to the beauty of the ritual.

Bingo!!! This is a good text. Many liturgical cerimonies are in this one for use in communion services, communion to the sick, viaticum, and others. Not a waste of money for the deacon you are working with.

In my notebook I keep with me, I have a copy of the prayers songs and rubrics of the benediction liturgy. If you’d like me to email the word document that I use, PM me your email address. I will send it to you tomorrow from work, as it is on my work laptop. Don’t tell my boss…👍😃

I had forgotten that I posted this thread.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

The Adoremus Hymnal is being updated to reflect the restoration of the Roman Missal. I’ll wait for the new one to come out and then will order a copy.
