Rudy (Of Notre Dame Movie Fame)....Is Now a Mormon

Not surprised considering recent affairs. Interesting 2013 was the year he started inquiring. Congrats Rudy!

Suffice it to say, Rudy’s path to the fullness of the gospel is one that started long before that [2013] trip and is one of truly being “loved” into the church through the efforts of Randy “Rudy” Garn, supported by countless others.

Note that the Mormons spent years of effort “loving” Mr. Ruettiger into the LDS and, presumably, away from Catholicism.

Do Catholics devote as much effort to conversion?

Quite the opposite of “loving.” Some Catholics in this forum feel the need to insult and belittle us.

Nor have I. But then what is the selling point? Join us for the doctrine that you are free to ignore? Hey instead of believing whatever you want and bashing catholics from outside the church, join the church and help run out the true believers from the inside?

He wanted to go to Notre Dame and before he went there, he to a small Catholic college.

I am very disappointed that he would reject Christ for the false Christ of Mormonism. He does know what he just did, right? If he was a practicing Catholic, he needs some Catechism revival.

And to think I wanted to buy the movie yesterday.
 
rudy made nickels and dimes from speaking fees after his “notre dame football career”

the novelty wore out years ago

i guess he views the LDS church as sort of a lifeboat to take him into retirement and oblivion

Yes, I heard him on the Catholic Guy Show a while back (within the last two years). He was pretty enthusiastic in pointing out what the church meant in his life and seemed to be practicing.

Many men go into a personal crisis once they realize that they’ve been alive longer than they will be. And religious change can be part of that crisis.

Going to ND does not necessarily imply a committed faith; not all Fighting Irish are Catholics? He may have been primarily interested in football. (I know beans about him beyond the film, which I saw dog-years ago.)

I’ve known many. NET and FOCUS are just two Catholic apostolates where young people serve as missionaries all throughout the U.S. Not as ubiquitous as the Mormons, but still plenty of Catholics out there spreading the Gospel.

And of course, just because we have never met one doesn’t mean we cannot be one ourselves. God is calling every single one of us to participate in the missionary activity of the Church. It’s not just for others to do.

As a University of Michigan alum, I’ve done my share of poking fun at Notre Dame over the years. Is it weird that my immediate reaction to this is to think of the t-shirts with “Rudy Sucks” written on it? 🤷

No offense to any Notre Dame fans on here.
