Rules about Eucharist, Exorcism, etc

Hello I was wondering if anyone could answer my questions.

I know that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith, however I have seen it being used in popular media in solemn exorcisms and even fighting vampires. I recall seeing Van Helsing use it in Bram Stoker’s Dracula to fight one of Dracula’s brides.

It is my understanding that nowadays the Church considers this potential desecration of the blessed sacrament and does not allow priests to use the Eucharist in exorcism or directly fighting the devil.

My question is, has this always been the case? Did they allow priests to use Christ’s physical presence to thwart demons in the past? Perhaps in the middle ages?

Anyone who knows more about this subject please enlighten me.

I am not able to answer your question, sorry. But, why wouldn’t the Church be able to use all She has regardless of the abuses of those outside the Church? Those outside the Church should not dictate how the Church uses things, right?

The Eucharist is a sacrament, not a magic talisman. It is the body and blood of our lord in a form suitable for consumption and adoration. It is inappropriate to use the host in any other manner.

However, celebrating mass, and having the possessed receive communion has always been a part of the exorcism ritual. The popular media of course isn’t interested in showing the “boring” parts such as this.

I’m sure this priest simply carried our Lord in a pynx, which is the ordinary means of transporting the holy sacrament. Carrying the host is a standard practice for a priest (such as carrying communion to the sick), though this is perhaps an extraordinary reason to carry the host.

However, a priest simply carrying the host on his person is fundamentally different from using the host in an inappropriate manner, such as shown in horror movies. In any case, it would be the active intervention of Jesus Christ, the priest’s travel companion, that is providing protection, not the act of carrying of the host.

Father had another story as well about the blessed sacrament.

At that time there were assylums for the mentally ill. Since then these places were shut down and the occupants abandoned to the streets.

Anyway, Father said that he would bring Holy Communion to the catholic inhabitants in one instution. When he walked down the hallways, he said there were terribly loud noises somewhat along the lines of loud wild animals but were weirder. As he walked thru, he always heard these aweful sounds, which he said he never heard anywhere else. When he was finished distributing Communion and no longer had the Sacrament on him, he walked back thu those same halls to the exit, and but he never heard those sounds on his departure. He felt convinced that these were nothing less than diabolical noises.

In response, this isn’t entirely true. The Blessed Sacrament has been used in Exorcisms. One of the most famous examples was in the exorcism of Nicola Aubrey. olrl.org/stories/exorcism.shtml
This was significant as it numerous Protestant reformers who had failed to exorcise the demons converted to Catholacism after witnessing the power and real presence of Jusus in the Eucharist.

Hi there, yes the Eucharist has been used in Catholic exorcisms. The most famous example is the exorcism of Nicola Aubrey olrl.org/stories/exorcism.shtml
This was significant as numerous Protestant reformers who had failed to exorcise the demons converted to Catholacism after witnessing the power and real presence of Jusus in the Eucharist during this exorcism.
This was many years ago however I do believe even today with permission in some circumstances the blessed sacrament is used during exorcism.

Can’t answer your questions with certainty, but if we are to fight the Devil, I think the Eucharist/consecrated priest are probably the greatest weapon we have.

It about presence. When the Lord is present, everything else is paled in significance and nothing, nothing in the heaven, in the earth, in between or below, can stand against the Lord. The Devil would pack his bag if he still got the time and leave.

When we are attacked by the enemy, we turn to the Lord, for He saves; and we can turn to the only thing we know how and what He had given, the Eucharist.

I known an exorcist priest, he was a vice president of the international association of exorcists, often gave us retreat especially on deliverance and healing, he did not tell how he would do the exorcism though. And it did not come to our mind to ask him how he did it exactly, perhaps because when he came no exorcism was done except for deliverance and prayers for inner healing for the participants or the public during rallies.

But like I said, it would not come as a surprise if the Sacrament of the Eucharist is being used in exorcism.

Edit: But of course it can be just the exorcism ritual and without the Eucharist. Most the times it is not a one-off events but needs many follow-ups depending on how the direction the case manifests.
