This came up on another thread… so I thought I would post my rules for the perfect bubble bath. Please feel free to post your “rules” for a perfect whatever…

Rules for a perfect bubble bath:

Let everyone in the house know you are going and not to disturb you… with one bathroom houses this is essential… usually goes something like this: “Pee now or forever hold your pee” “I am going to bathe so if you need me, you have 5 minutes to let me know”

Large glass of ice water…

Hottest water you can stand…

Good book, mp3 player with good music, or laptop with a good movie… usually a musical…necessities!

Cigarettes and ashtray if you smoke…

washcloth to get wet… and one to stay dry within arms reach…

One hand gets wet, the other stays dry except when needed for washing purposes… (this is so that you can hold book, turn pages or smoke a cigarette)

At least an hour of soak time…

Special grooming products… whatever you like (facial mask, baby oil, deep hair conditioner, etc…)

bath pillow for resting your head and just enjoying the quiet…

Oh… train the kids to be quiet, even if you are in the bath, outside noises can be distracting!

If the water gets cold, you are “allowed” to add hot water…

No cordless phones or cell phones allowed!!!

These are my “rules”… what are yours?

Candles around the bathroom, no natural light, hot water scented bubble bath, and a nice bath pillow!

hehe…this is awesome! 😃

I like candles, a book, and a good big cold drink. 👍

I haven’t done the music in the tub…but I really should try it! 👍

On another note–I like Bath and Body Works’ Amber bubble bath. 😃

ohh also include a small glass of chilled white wine
and if you have butterfingers like me, do NOT bring library books into the tub! :o

Of course bubble baths including DH and 3 month old babies are perfectly delightful too 😉

I miss long baths. We have one tub in the house, and because of my bad hip and the way the tub door works, it is a no-go for me to get in 😦

That was the one reason I looked forward to travel for work - a nice hotel room meant I could take a bath. No more job, so, no more travel.

wait till your kids grow up and go to college, then you may get a chance to have a bath in peace (unless DH decides he has to wash his golf clubs at that time).

I agree - make sure everyone has used the bathroom first!

Sometimes most soothing is a dark bath, with the flicker of candlelight only, barely-there soft music, and the scent of a soothing essential oil like lavender or rose. Oh, and fine soap is a must!

I am thrilled to have an old deep iron tub now. Such luxury! They have made water-saver tubs for some years now, that when “full” don’t even cover your whole foot! Thats what I had been regulated to for a few years. Its so unfair - the average person gets that (unless like me they get into a very old house) unless they have plenty of money to remodel and put in a giant whirlpool tub. But its the average person who most needs a real tub to enjoy a little at-home luxury!

Annie - you just have to remember to ask him* before* your bath if he needs to wash his clubs!

I’m a bit clumsy too, so the book isn’t really an option for me either, although an audio book would make an acceptable substitute. And my current tub is woeful - clearly designed purely for bathing kids and not adults 😦

Anywho, thinking back to my last abode which had a lovely deep bathtub, my ideal bath involves a glass of wine as well, lashings of my favourite bubble bath (I really like some of the Body Shop ones) and soothing music/audio.

BlestOne, your bubble bath description is nearly perfect for me, but…
Large glass of ice water…
I see your glass of ice water and raise you one San Pellegrino (sp?). 😃

Also, I think the ultimate luxury in bubble baths is a pre-bath shower. Now that’s indulgent.

Don’t bring your MP3 or laptop! Eek! I had a bubble bath a few weeks ago and my ipod slipped and got wet (didn’t go under water, thankfully) and broke. 😦 Fortunately it was able to be replaced.

I like bringing a book, some chocolates and a tall glass of water or juice. I also bring in small lights or candles so I can have a nice soothing light to read by. Add some lavender essential oil to the water and I’m instantly relaxed.

I always go the post-bath shower instead, don’t want any bubble-bathy-soapy residue staying on my skin.

Nope, they’ve got to clear out of the house entirely, for at least three to four hours, preferably overnight so the bath can be followed by a full night’s uninterrupted sleep in the middle of the bed alone.

No books.
No music.
No noises of any kind whatsoever.
Complete silence.
Aroma therapy.
Low lights and candle light.
Warm towels fresh from the dryer, one for hair, one for body.

:yup:

I’d be happy with just an uninterrupted 15 minute shower without having to make special arrangements at this point though.

Yes to the book, the glass of chilled white wine, and the candles. No to the laptop or mp3 player - just not a good idea! I also have some floating “flowers” made of soap that dissolve in the bath and make it look pretty. Unfortunately, I’ve just moved and my new apartment only has a shower. 😦 The only way I can get a bath now is to go to a public bath house, which defeats the purpose because it’s not quiet and the last thing I want is to relax naked with a dozen other people.

OK… clarification… If I take my laptop, it is on a small shelf next to the tub and I set up a movie and hit play before I ever get in the water… no chance of it getting wet. I love watching Sound of Music or any other musical while bathing because I can sing along.

My mp3 player I do chance it by wearing headphones. BUT… I put the mp3 player in a drawer next to the tub and the only thing sticking out of the drawer is the headphones, which are also in my ears… just have to remember not to dunk my head under with them in…

I wish I had a shelf or drawer! I never thought to use my DVD player (I have one of those portable ones). I should charge the battery and get it ready for my Friday night bath. 🙂

A “garden” size tub with a Jacuzzi, lavender-scented bubbles, relaxing music on the CD player (say, Miles Davis’ “Round Midnight”), and a good book.

Our old place had the garden tub. Here we have a hot tub… it’s broken. 😦 When it’s working, we can’t put bubbles in it, but can have scented candles.

I’m too wide to fit into either of our bathtubs. That is, I can get in, but then there’s only room for a gallon or so of water. 😉 DH gets in OK. They, too, are designed for children, but we got a gadget from one of those catalogs like “Home Trends” that goes over the upper drain, and raises the water level by a few inches.
