What? First, there was plenty of action that took place on the Defiant, not to mention other planets like Cardassia, the wormhole established more ‘movement’ to and from the station, and when Dukat destroyed the orbs Sisko managed to open up a new wormhole with the orb of the Emissary.

And while I will always cherish the relationship between Bones and Spock, TNG had no real character interactions of interest, while DS9 had Odo and Quark. And they went seven seasons, not just three!

The new Star Trek movies (into darkness, beyond) make Sulu gay. I don’t really care, I’m watching the movie for the plot and the character development and the entertainment. Doesn’t matter to me what they do with Kirk.

Next Gen is the best then Voyager. Don’t go disrespecting Data and Riker and LaForge and Janeway and Paris and Chacotay!

I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

A secular humanist TV show? In 2020? Considering doing exactly what all the other secular humanist TV shows have been doing for years?

Shocked. Where’s my fainting couch.

But the character was canonically bi, unless that’s changed recently.
I don’t understand the point of this article actually, it’s highlighting a trait that’s been part of Kirk for a while.

Deep Space 9 is excellent TV.

Anyway, TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and even ENT were all cooked with the same Star Trek ingredients, even if the writing in VOY was often hit or miss and ENT never soared to the heights of TNG and DS9. Discovery and Picard are made by people who don’t like Star Trek for people who don’t like Star Trek. Strange New Worlds is coming from the same showrunner so expect more of the same.

Haha I didn’t even read the article.

Honestly, who knows. I wouldn’t be surprised though. Wasn’t one of Kirk’s most famous character traits his promiscuity?

And at least in TNG, Riker’s character fell in love with a non-gendered alien (played by a female actor, although apparently Riker’s actor wanted the alien played by a male actor to make a stronger point).

Point of my original sardonic comment was yeah, you can’t really shock me with any sexual update to the Trek franchise. I don’t think. Unless there’s some character I’m forgetting who adhered religiously to Catholic sexual mores. Maybe… O’Brien? He was married and a father, at least. Yeah, it’d be irritating if they arbitrarily made O’Brien polyamorous or erased Keiko and put him in a same-sex union. Apart from that, though… adding new sexual promiscuity levels to Kirk won’t get much more than ever wider eye rolls from me.

Yep. He went after basically anything that moved in the novels lol.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this ‘leak’ is just a marketing thing to get Reddit riled up and talking about it. I don’t even follow the Star Trek fandom that closely and this wasn’t surprising at all.

Heretic! Next Generation is the best of the Star Trek franchise. 😊
I’m trying to figure out which category to flag this as; I thought it had its own . .

Plus he was a card cheat, too!
Uh, anyone who didn’t see him as that when he appeared in the actual trilogy wasn’t very perceptive . . .
As to Jim Kirk, he liked women but had only one true love: the Enterprise.
that was actually a plot point once . . .
Picard is the classic captain. Kirk is so … William Shatner.
Are we allowed to call people “perverts”. here?
 😱 🤔

Star Trek (unqualified, as opposed to the TLS’s) wouldn’t have worked with good acting. (DeForest Kelley being a notable exception)

(my brother claims that Shatner’s woodenness is because he’s stage acing rather than acting for a camera)
Don’t go disrespecting Data and
Expecting us to respect (or even like) the bloody robot is going just too far . . .

Party pooper!

Lando never played cards in the original trilogy. Plus the skilled gambler is always more impressive than the cheat.

As to ST, the “Spock/pure logic vs. McCoy/pure emotion” is IMHO one of the best aspects of the show.

There are pretty clear implications between Landowner’s and Han that both thought the other was cheating in the game where he won the ship.

It’s the core.

Spock and McCoy were not characters in their own right, but rather personifications of the conflict within Kirk.
