Name the text in Acts you are referring to, and show where it says “Mass.” The disciples were just eating a meal together. It had nothing to do with the Sabbath being changed.
At the risk of descending, even temporarily, into pre-pubescence, show me “soul sleep”, “temporary hell” or “soul annihilation” in scripture. As a concept. Or, even in the same sentence. If they are in history at all, they are as early heresies that died out until 1800s America.

It should be painfully obvious that “trinity” came from that which is described in scripture. You believe it, but it’s not there. Mass also came from scripture. You may know it as the “Lord’s supper”, but it has continued unbroken, since Christ instituted it. Good grief! I will discuss your thoughts with my Adventist Chaplain at work. I need a second opinion.

Christ’s peace. Really.

God’s law needs no “binding” or “loosing.”
You certainly used the proper smilie.

Christianity 101:

Matthew 28:18-19 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

Matthew 16:19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 18:18 “I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

For the benefit of those reading this thread, yes, Jesus really said all of this. He really did this. He knew everything past, present and future and still gave this power to the Apostles. You are free to deny it, but you then become as those in John 6:66, who left Jesus because they found His teaching hard to take.

You see, they loved the concept of Christ. It was His reality that troubled them.

Christ’s peace, if that’s possible. Please, Lord!

Since Mass is a Latin term, and wouldn’t have come around for 400 or so years, that’s a nice try! And I do admire your tact!!!

Simply look at the teachings of the early Church. The “Breaking of the Bread” in 1st century writings was another term for what we now call the Mass.

While, admittedly, since your Church is only a few hundred years old at best (or is it just a few decades), I can understand how you wouldn’t know this. But Catholics that have studied the Church in Her entire 1970+ years (and any Christian wanting to know the roots of their faith SHOULD WANT TO KNOW), this is common knowledge.
Chapter 9. The Eucharist. Now concerning the Eucharist, give thanks this way. First, concerning the cup: We thank thee, our Father, for the holy vine of David Thy servant, which You madest known to us through Jesus Thy Servant; to Thee be the glory for ever…
And concerning the broken bread: We thank Thee, our Father, for the life and knowledge which You madest known to us through Jesus Thy Servant; to Thee be the glory for ever. Even as this broken bread was scattered over the hills, and was gathered together and became one, so let Thy Church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into Thy kingdom; for Thine is the glory and the power through Jesus Christ for ever…
But let no one eat or drink of your Eucharist, unless they have been baptized into the name of the Lord; for concerning this also the Lord has said, “Give not that which is holy to the dogs.”
Protestant101, read Luke’s account of the road to Emmaus.

After opening the Scriptures to the Disciples on the way to Emmaus (This is what Catholics call the Liturgy of the Word. It consists of OT readings, a Psalm response, usually an Epistle of Paul’s, and a Gospel reading. Then the priest opens up the Gospel and teaches us how to follow it.), Jesus then goes through the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This formula is still followed nearly 2000 years later, using the blessings that Jesus may have used and then the very words of consecration that Jesus used.
And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.
He broke the bread, blessed it, gave it to them. And they recognized Him. Wow!!! Catholics everywhere recognize Jesus in the Breaking of the Bred everyday at Mass, and surely on the Lord’s Day!God Bless!!!

Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!!

Keep this up and you’ll be accused of exhibiting lurid fervency!

Christ’s peace.

This sounds like something a Messianic Jew would say. Hmmmmmmmmm…
No, the Messianic Jews understood that the Pharisees had the authority to “bind and loose”. Even Jesus acknowledged that the Pharisees had this authority.

No, the questioning of the God-given authority is simply a Tradition of Man.

We Catholics don’t consider Sunday to be the sabbath at all. Our catechism teaches very clearly that Sunday is NOT the sabbath, but the Lord’s Day, a new celebration which REPLACES the Jewish sabbath. “Sunday is expressly distinguished from the sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the sabbath,” CCC 2175.

By Divine Providence, Jimmy Akin has just addressed it on the CA radio show:

Colossians 2:15-17 (New International Version) “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”

All of these things that Paul speaks of are the Jewish Law. As Christians were no longer bound by Jewish law, such as dietary restrictions and the requirement of circumcision, neither were they bound to hold the Jewish Sabbath, which remains undisturbed within the Catholic Church. The early church realized that Christ rose on Sunday for a Heavenly reason. They realized that they received the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, again for a Heavenly reason. With two of the most important events in human history both occurring, for a Heavenly reason, on Sunday, it became the Lord’s day. So, I let no one, even an Adventist brother in Christ, judge me for a Sabbath. Neither do I judge them for their adherence to selected parts of the Jewish Law.

Christ’s peace be with all.

Thank you! No wonder 101 seems confused! They still hold to certain, selected parts of the Jewish Law, while foregoing others. Cafeteria Christians? It almost seems like they are trying to hedge their bet and please God under both Covenants. I am entirely happy and at peace with my choice.

Christ’s peace be with all of you.
