Running out of Mercy

After hwaring about Dan Savage’s upcoming anti-Catholic sitcom “The Real O’Neals”, as well as the Family Guy episode “The 2,000 Year-Old-Virgin”, I see little reason to have any charity towards anti-Catholic entertainers. Praying for them and signing protest petitions seems like ineffective and passive-aggressive, doing nothing to stop their venomous libel.

You cannot be merciful to someone if they are not sorry. Something has to be done about this. This aggression cannot stand. I’m tired of the Church sitting back and “being merciful”. Mercy has become synonymous with enabling. I am not seeking retribution because I am some fundamentalist possessed by the ghost of Stalin. It’s because I have been “merciful” for too long, and I can no longer restrain my tongue (or my middle fingers, for that matter).

I have also had enough of the Church hierarchy brown-nosing Muslims. They have become too politically correct to see Islam for what it is. The violence happening in Muslim countries every single day cannot continue to be chalked up to “a few bad apples”.

I have it on good authority how uneducated Muslims are; my brother has a friend who is a former USMC officer, who said that people in Afghanistan did not understand the concept that we have sent humans to the moon, which they believe is about the size of a dime. another guy I know said that one radical who committed a shooting on a bus in India thought he would have an “aura of light” as he killed for Allah. Then a policeman showed him the body of one of his co-conspirators, and he was shocked that there was no aura.

I am finding myself less resistant to mocking Islam. With Islamic violence having been brought to US soil in recent months, I have had enough of the “religion of peace”. I now have fewer qualms about calling them derisive names which would get me banned from this forum.

Well, don’t insult anybody via the forum, for one. You’d be wasting time and effort.

Retribution is not in our hands as average sinners. While we can boycott television shows that insult the faith (and the networks that make them), ultimately all we can do is pray, do penance, and wait.

Heck, there are people even here who don’t believe we landed on the moon, and they’ve had educational opportunities that many in Afghanistan can’t even dream about. If someone has no chance and no possibility for education, how is that his/her fault?

I can understand being angry about Islam, especially with the actions of ISIS and Boko Haram lately.

But there’s no point in mocking Islam. If you were to do that, you would look like a Christian that doesn’t follow the teachings of Christ- aka, a hypocrite.

Personally I pray that God will either convert them, or stop them through whatever means He wishes. If that means He destroys them (perhaps through the use of the U.S. military) I’m good with that. But I do still pray for their conversion.

I too sometimes feel anger towards those who ridicule the Catholic faith, but then again, most religions on shows like the Family Guy get ridiculed. Look on the bright side there are other shows coming out that are actually favourable towards Catholicism (The Gaffigans).

As for Islam, just remember that the majority affected by Islamic violence are Muslims, i.e., they too suffer reprisals, bombings, torture. . . . so they need our prayers and our pity.

p.s. We also have to remember that we probably were better off not going to war in Iraq, it opened a power vacuum that allowed ISIS to take control.

I agree that something should be done to stop all of the anti-Catholic and anti-moral things that happen in the world. But how do you expect this to be done through anger and hatred? It simply won’t and it simply can’t. The only way to evangelize and bring about change towards the Lord Jesus is to extend charity to all.

Now, I also agree that radical Muslims are threatening the whole world and have to be stopped rather than just passively dealt with. The fact of the matter is that Islam is wrong, and one thing that would be awesome is if we could convert the Muslims to Christ and Catholicism, but unfortunately that region is just much too volatile for missionary work.

To your point on the uneducated nature of Muslims, I would have to rephrase that it is people living in impoverished, desert-filled Arab nations who are uneducated, not necessarily Muslims (although most of them are Arab). And this is not their fault- it is the fault of their leadership who keeps them repressed and in the Stone Age, and also just the fact that many people are poor and don’t have the money to fund an education.

There are any things wrong with your post, my friend. There are also many partially good points that you make. The way to deal with them, however, is not with violence or hatred or mockery, but charitable dialogue which leads to conversion to Christ.

Christians have dealt with worse…some still are. It is hard to turn the other cheek but if we make fun of another religion, we violate the very basis of the religion we seek to defend and honor. I just hope God doesn’t run out of patience or mercy for me!

What you see is caused by the people of the Church themselves. Society is not stronger than the Church, but when the Church doesn’t do anything then society goes into error.

First we don’t behave any better than the unbelievers. Second some of our priests(in some countries) don’t really care to make the people of the Church holy. They careless marry people and when they divorce use this to get annulment or hope that cardinal Kasper wins. Also the bishops give the impression to the worlds that all the Catholic Church is about is to ban gay marriage and abortion. The Church leadership give the impression that all religions are more or less the same and should contribute “good”. Our liturgy became a human centered fun event. We also give the impression that there are no reason to believe, we just believe because we “like it”.

Read the early Church fathers, they did know what true charity is! They did criticize the false religions, but they also gave a proper example what true holiness means, this is why they spread the faith over Europe!

Righteous anger is completely justified don’t let anyone tell you any different. It doesn’t mean you lack charity and it doesn’t you think God isn’t love.

Wanting to stop terrorists is natural and this is why we are supposed to have armies to handle the defensive fighting. The only thing we can do is pave the way with prayer. There have been conversions of terrorists so pray for their conversion. Miracles do happen. But this type of miracle only happens through love. Muslims and Christians have been living side by side peaceably in the Middle East for many years. May I recommend the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Nope, not correct. If you look at a dictionary definition of mercy, it doesn’t say the person has to be sorry. In fact, the whole idea of mercy is giving something to someone that they don’t deserve.
