however i agree with Bart that the Holy Father’s trip to America will bear much fruit in the months and years ahead. it will take time to digest all that he said and did. And, the visibility he gives the Church in America will draw many conversions, I’m sure.

Look, Republicans have long desired to own the Catholic vote. before WWII and for a good while afterward, the Catholic vote went almost as a block to Rooseveltian Democrats. you remember Roosevelt, the one who designed Social Security, the system that Republicans voted enmasse against and have always hated with a white hatred, and even as recently as our Boy president have tried to dismantle.
but I digress. the point is that yes, Limbo may admire the Pope, as do many others who might not agree with the Catholic Church’s positions against wars in faraway places and American exceptionalism. I’m not surprised that Limbo professes admiration for the pope. he’s pushing a Republican agenda, and that agenda will not do well unless a whole bunch of American Catholics get on board his Republican program.

I believe Rush has always spoken well of the Pope and Catholicism. I listened to him for many years - and still do when I’m able.It is interesting that Rush Limbaugh has taken such an interest in the papal trip. He is currently playing excerpts from his homilies. The Pope had a great impact while in America, even for non-Catholics like Rush Limbaugh. I think the Catholic Church is on the cusp of great things with non-Catholics as a result of this visit.
