I went to confession tonight and the priest gave me the penance before I was able to finish. I must have been in there less than a minute. I never had such a short confession. I noticed the next person was in and out as well. I ended up confessing again at another parish.

I know priests have to take care of everyone, but I’ve never had an experience like this before. Usually the priest will ask me if I have anything else to confess before telling me my penance. I guess I should’ve interrupted and told him I have more to confess, but I feel funny doing that.

Priests are human, even in the confessional. Don’t feel funny interrupting if you know you have further sins to confess. Sometimes I’ve even remembered something AFTER the absolution and interrupted to mention it.

As for not confessing all your sins - if the unconfessed sins were only venial in nature then you don’t need to worry or to confess again. One good reason to always confess mortal sins first before moving on to the venial sins!

I never confess venial sins, just mortal sins. Are we supposed to confess venial sins as well? 🤷

Venial sins are forgiven during the penetential rite at Mass.

However, confession can help us overcome habitual, venial sins, so it’s OK to confess those as well.

Grace and Peace,

Out of the last 3 confessions I’ve attended, I’ve missed two and given a general absolution and asked to seek confession at another time and the one I did get a chance to confess in I felt rushed because there were so many behind me that I tried to hurry so that others could get in. Maybe one of them had a great need than I and I didn’t want to be the cause of them not getting in.

Knowing that we are in Lent I understand that there is a great attendance of confession so I kind of look at it as a blessing that more are coming to the Sacrament but I also understand that need to confess and have a good one. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t but I always give it up to our Lord who is merciful and loveth mankind. Amen.

Peace and God Bless.

It’s more than OK - it’s a good idea to confess all sin if possible, no matter how minor. Of course there are time constraints and often people waiting behind you so it’s not necessarily always practical.

But it’s not like you’d take a shower and be happy to leave even a small patch of your skin dirty, or leave a small stain on your shirt when you wash it. Why should you not, if possible, cleanse your soul equally thoroughly?

As you say, though, it is an especially good idea (and a lot more do-able for some) to confess at least your habitual venial sins as well as your mortal sins. :yup:

Why do people say that receiving Holy Communion pardons our venial sins when they are forgiven during the Penetential rite?

Because there are a myriad number of ways venial sins are forgiven -the making of a good Act of Contrition, for example, is another way.

And people like to know that even if they (never purposely, I’m sure) are late to Mass and arrive after the Penitential Rite their venial sins are forgiven by the simple act of receiving Communion in and of itself.

Never be afraid to politely offer “Wait Father, I have just a little more to free from my heart and soul.”

I have done this before when I remembered something…

Chances are good Father will wait another 60 seconds.

Always start with the most serious sins first and work your way down. If the priest does cut you off, you will have at least gotten all of the mortal sins out of the way.
