“As you did it to the least of these, YOU DID IT TO ME.”
In terms of the Lord’s teachings on love and the* scripture you quote** does this include young people not being led down the garden path into a life of disease and immorality? *
I think it does!!
No attacking or
beating
anyone!!
No
* unwanted** education of other peoples children on homosexuality!*
and
*No public recruiting allowed in Russia when it comes to Homosexuality. *

I happen to value freedom of speech. OUR laws don’t give me room to decide on my own what’s acceptable and what’s not, and I served the country to protect the right of even people I disagree with entirely to speak their mind. There is absolutely NO merit to a system that says, “Hey, they’re wrong… go ahead and beat 'em down if you want!”
No public recruiting allowed in Russia when it comes to Homosexuality.
This is the whole problem, though.

Free speech should be free for us, and for those with whom we disagree.

I remember once at the local abortion clinic another person told one of the Catholic protesters that she didn’t want the protester presenting her beliefs to the other person’s children.

I certainly wouldn’t want a law to prevent that. And it would be almost impossible to protect the free speech rights of Catholics and not others.

Christ refused to allow the condemnation of the adulterous woman.
He never said what she’d done was acceptable.
He never said her accusers were incorrect.
He also managed to defend her, showing unflagging love and compassion.
Something to consider… when he said “Go, and sin no more,” should we not assume it also applies to our own penchant for judging the sins of others?
Even in righteousness, we can find ourselves in prideful, arrogant and deeply presumptuous sin.
Which of us, in what state of life is in a position to pass judgement on other sinners? To whom among us has Christ given the command to drive sin out of someone else’s life? From what moral position are my sins “less” than those of others? Who among us is ready to throw the first stone?
Does it MATTER if we’re talking about this woman, or a gay person, or our own secret, undiscussed and humiliating sins, great and small? Which of OUR sins… which of MY sins didn’t pierce the hands and feet of my Lord and fix Him to the cross? Did YOUR nails and thorns hurt him less than a homosexuals did? Were the stings and tears of the lash of MY sins softer than a gay person’s blows at the pillar?
We CAN NOT look at any person- gay, straight, or anything else- as “less.” Every other sinner- no matter the sin- is our brother, our sister, and in them resides the Christ we must look for and see!
For any Christian to do less is weak, lame and unworthy of the Catholic faith to which we’re called.
There is no sinner that we are “better” than. No one that Christ says we may look down on or judge.
How about instead of seeing them as “Gay People,” we first, foremost and ONLY see them as PEOPLE, sinners no better or worse than ourselves, who are being victimized for their perceived sins by people who choose to ignore their own?
If I see myself as somehow morally, ethically or spiritually “superior” to any other poor sinner, I have utterly missed the entire point of Christ’s teaching, and devalued his finished work on the Cross.
God forbid we ever see in others some sin upon which we think we’re in a position ourselves to look down.
Blessed Dorothy Day, pray for us!
I am afraid that gay activists are abusing the compassion of the people like you and convert it into their (gays’) additional benefits. Granting benefits to the sinners means encouraging other people to follow the sinners. It’s unacceptable!

Nobody’s talking about special or additional benefits; I’m talking about basic human rights and dignity… like not getting pummeled in the street.

There’s a grave problem in contemporary law in Europe & the US (I hate the term “the West” as if the contemporary political forms have much to do with those preceding them), which is that free speech has become the pretext for the promotion of all manner of things which are directly injurious both to souls and to society as a whole. The reason for the increasing acceptance by the young of what were propositions that were scoffed a mere thirty years ago – “oh come on, NO ONE is going to expect gay couples to be able to legally MARRY!” – is that they are the group most targeted by advertising, and those who have least resistance to it – not that their parents or even grandparents showed a gret deal of resistance to the most terrible forms of corruption via the massive indoctrination under the name of entertainment & advertising.
The Russians have been bludgeoned for decades, first by philosophical materialists, and now by practical materialists, both rejecting divine law as a mtter of course.

*In Russia the majority of folks do not appear to want their young people to be exposed to or introduced to the homosexual lifestyle!
Gay parades etc. were not allowed in Russia long before
this law came into being. People decide *what type of culture they want *
and they do this through their elected officials.
*Perhaps in the West and Europe we need to make our displeasure regarding homosexuality and indoctrination of our children *
known to our elected officials much more adamantly.
There is no such thing as
Freedom without Responsibility! Protecting children and miners has to be a priority
in any culture worth it’s salt.
.

The media has been portraying the law as an unreasonable measure pushed by “radical religious groups.” But this cannot account for
why the lower house
of the Russian parliament approved the bill unanimously, with only one abstention. Russia can hardly be described as a religious nation, but the law has overwhelming support in the legislature. **
Russians have consistently
denied
homosexual groups parade permits, sparing its children and the public at large the
ludicrous
and
disturbing
behavior on show in the squares and streets of Europe and America.
Similarly the news reports have
highlighted
* episodes where some LGBT persons were victims of violence, without highlighting that the** vast majority** of the** demonstrators** at the parliament while the law was being passed were in favor of the** law**, and that the violence had nothing to do with the** vast majority** of demonstrators.

What about gays not getting pummeled in the streets of the US? How do you propose to stop that? The Russians have established a boundary for gay propaganda (their word, not mine). They see that the moment gay so-called marriage becomes legal in a State, 5 year old Bobby is automatically given a story book in his public school showing two men kissing (King and King) and it’s not a parental notification issue. What? The State decides but mom and dad don’t know until Bobby tells them about it? That’s wrong. Parents have the right to know what their kids are being taught. 5 year olds don’t have the mental or emotional maturity to fully understand that stuff.

Peace,
Ed

I agree, Catherine. I took some flack about my little note saying that of all the laws I hear of in Russia, this one bothers me least. Any country who has access to TV and can see what’s going on in the west might just decide to nip such stuff in the bud. I would.

Strange thing. America always had normal mentality, the freedom was generally understood in terms of economics only, and this was and still is very attractive.

Moral “freedoms” exported from the Old World were always disapproved and blamed and punished by you, there was good American legislation in place on this matter.

Something happened with you in the '60s; your thinkers (thinktanks) were the first to point at it.

Bad influences.

Some of the posts here look like Buddhists or Hindu or other Eastern religions badly need recognition as Christians or at least as Catholics, who were liberals all the way, Protestants and thousands of other Christian small factions being with or under Buddha from their very conception. I heared once their sermon: “Come to our parish! You will live in the eye (the quietest place) of hurrucane.” Doubtful Christian perspective!

Keep in mind that Mahatma’s spinning wheel (whta’s its name?) was, in the static Indian society, no less powerful gun than real gun in European society.

Two by two makes four only if you behave good. Otherwise nobody can guarantee stable result. It’s simple and elementary, beloved!

If someone exhibits bad manners, normal people will blame on that person and their reaction may vary subject to circumstances.

There is no need to tie the beating to homosexual or other specific agenda (beating of prostitutes or homeless or else). You will only create the mess and confusion. This is just what the gay activists want.

You are exactly right. I lived through it. A massive attack was launched by dissidents inside and outside the Church in the late 1960s and continues to this day. I have all of the evidence. Some of these people have been identified, but some have not. The final evidence is the Western culture of today. It is like pigs rolling in the mud.

For the sake of our souls, we must get out of the mud. Russia is doing a very good job.

Peace,
Ed

👍

(I would also add, for the sake of civilization and posterity. :))

Ed, I agree! But I’m not AT ALL defending the “Gay Agenda.” I’m talking about human beings being beaten in the streets, sometimes severely. I don’t care what their politics is; it’s wrong.

It IS horrible for anyone to beat another person in the street–no argument there. Probably the Russian government doesn’t care if such things occur either–since they would be happening to gays—and that’s evil as well. But, if after observing the decaying of the west and how things like tolerance can somehow be perverted into a legalized attitude that anything and everything goes, the Russian government takes a stance that gays must keep it in their bedroom and not be out passing pamphlets on the street, I am hard pressed to disagree with their feelings.

Here is a good article from the Catholic Knight:

catholicknight.blogspot.com/2013/08/fatima-unfolding.html

While it is good Russia passed these laws to stop the gay agenda, it is not right to have gays beaten up, as it is wrong. The youth of America is seeing propaganda, and if we don’t start a counter-movement, it will get worse. It has now gotten to the point that if you don’t support ssm you are a hateful bigot.

And what about those gays getting beaten in the streets of the United States?

AMEN! But what can we actually DO? And this is meant as a serious question, but aside from prayer which I believe in and practice faithfully,Ii’m a little at a loss as to what we can do as individuals to turn this tide which I see as something that is destroying our society here in the USA?

Speak the truth. There is no such thing as gay marriage. It is an invention that, although legal in some places, means that 5 year old Jimmy at your local public school automatically gets a story book with two men kissing. And later, even if he’s not gay, will be encouraged to give it a try. Teach your children the truth about marriage. Each one of us must make a comment and point people, including strangers, to the Truth.

vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20030731_homosexual-unions_en.html

Offer no material support to “gay marriage.” Politely refuse to attend any ceremony.

And don’t let the false and deceptive comments throw you because they are not built on facts but emotion. For example, I worked with gay, lesbian and bisexual people in the past. We got along. I didn’t give a second’s thought about what they did in private.

But today - privacy no longer exists. Gay, lesbian, whatever people will be in your face about their private lives. Finally, NO ONE NEEDS YOUR OR MY PERMISSION TO LIVE HOW THEY WANT. So ignore the 24/7 noise. Just ignore it, and vote against gay marriage should it appear on the ballot in your state.

Peace,
Ed

Your wise but simple approach works for me and I think I already do much of what you say–hopefully all. I’m just not sure how much impact we have when we seem to be outnumbered 3 to 1 and our politicians (who somehow get re-elected–even supposed Catholics like Biden and Pelosi who, in my opinion, should have been publicly excommunicated long ago if our Catholic hierarchy weren’t complete cowards), Hollywood and so on do so much more than us to publicize and promote their secular agendas. (sigh…)
