I remember reading a bit about this fellow. He went through some very dark times keeping Christianity alive during some very adverse conditions :knight2: He will be missed on Earth :highprayer:

Requiem æternam dona ei, Domine,

et lux perpetua luceat ei.

"May angels lead you into paradise;

may the martyrs receive you at your coming

and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem.

May a choir of angels receive you,

and with Lazarus, who once was poor, may you have eternal rest."

Shlomo lkhulkhun,

I am in complete shock! I have such great admiration for this great man. Prayers for him and the Russian Church during this time!

He suffered from heart ailment but too young to die at “only” 79.

It is said that His Holiness was the the first Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church in modern times to get elected by the Holy Synod without the influence or pressure of the State and/or government. We hope and pray that the election of his successor remains that way!

Various reports say that Metroplitan Kirill or Metropolitan Kliment are the frontrunners?

May he rest in peace!

Not hardly - he was indeed the civil choice as well as the ecclesiastical. His past as Agent Drozdov paved the way for his election. May God have mercy on his soul.

Dear Fr. Dcn. Randy:

I should have posted: “. . . without the overt influence or pressure of the State and/or government!”

Will this fly among UGCCers?😃

I don’t know about the UGGC but independent research organzations involved with religious liberty such as Keston would likely have problems with that statement. He was groomed from the beginning of his episcopate in Estonia for that position.

We do pray for the soul of Alexei and for the well-being of the children of the MP.

Prayers and condolences for the Patriarch and the Russian Church.

Eternal Memory!

This is shocking, was he in ill health recently??

According to an MP priest friend, he had been in and out of the doctor the last few months with some heart irregularity, but I believe this was very sudden and unexpected.
