I am, to be honest, shocked and at a loss for words. I was just discussing the Patriarch with a friend the other day, talking about how he had a backbone in contrast to some other Orthodox hierarchs. I said Russia would probably be blessed with him for a while yet, as he was only 79. I am, again, speechless. God grant him rest.
