Thanks, I’m never sure how well a joke will go over on the forum (or the other forum I’m on, which is Orthodox). 🙂

But seriously, ideally I’d prefer to say “in the Roman Communion” rather than “in communion with Rome” … but I figure it’s only a small difference (both are Rome-oriented) and not worth making into an issue.

Georgias…trust you.

A Russian Orthodox…who speaks American English and claims to come from that region showed me a map that had the Eastern Ukraine speaking Russian and this smaller Western area, speaking Ukrainian.

Beyond the map, still confused about Who’s who in the Ukraine and where their faith truly is. Lots of nationalism and baggage pointing to Catholics there supporting the Nazis and the Orthodox in collusion with the Soviet communists…people wanting Russian protection (from the Turks?..who are now working to establish a unifying caliphate between the Shi ites and Saudis…or the Western Ukraine seeking a more productive economic system from the West and so on…

My son had bad health…but he developed a deep friendship with a young Orthodox lady from Georgia who is very afraid of the Russians…so it is another twist. Thought all Orthodox supported Russia.

OK, so… a Russian Orthodox Ukrainian – and a speaker of Russian – told you that Ukrainian speakers are the minority in Ukraine? Umm… that doesn’t sound like a biased report to you? In any case, see this graph from the Wiki article on languages in Ukraine. It demonstrates that there are a majority of Ukrainian speakers in Ukraine, with a few exceptions: the regions that border Russia, Odessa (the largest Ukrainian sea port and home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet), and the Crimean peninsula. The colors in which the regions themselves are shaded demonstrate the percentage of people who identify Ukrainian as their native language. Dark green means “greater than 95%”, light green means “80 to 95%”, and dark yellow means “60 to 80%”. As you can see in the graph, the majority of the people in the majority of the country self-identify as native speakers of Ukrainian. (With all due respect to your friend, anyone who says anything else is either misinformed or has an agenda. 🤷)

Right; the fallout from Russian imperial domination and the legacy of the Soviet regime continues to make the situation quite complex.

Hahahaha…he showed me a map, too.

I wish they would go back to being Christian instead of nationalists particularly as Ergodan is now rising up to be self acclaimed caliph to unite Iran and Saudis…the dictator of Arminijidad…excuse my spelling, is also now rising and I read somewhere if correctly, he wants to run the Armenians out to the sea…entitlement to take over Armenia…My son’s freind is Orthodox and wants out of Georgia…they have been friends for a number of years now…

I will get copies of both maps and then compare. I did good in geography and understanding maps but not politics.

I guess it comes down to the reliability of the source of the data. The map on Wiki is credited as having come from census data in Ukraine. Believe what you will, I guess… 🤷

👍

Gergias…that is the problem…hard to figure out which is true…

So I just pray for conversions and unity among all Christians…I think nationalism has been such a great destroyer of authentic Christianity.
