Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, praised Pope Benedict and blasted Protestant bodies that have accepted women’s ordination and caved in …

As he should, it is when the good stand idle that corruption seeps in. This is what occured in protestantism and its what many false-catholics try to force into the catholic church now (Thankfully the magisterium keeps it at bay).

I’m with you, Michael. The Catholic Church seems in the last thirty years to have hit rock bottom for scandals and corruption. Perhaps this poster meant that the Magisterium keepst the Church free of theological error and didn’t mean corruption?
Are you sure? :hmmm:

He should also blast all those Roman Catholic priests and Bishops who are currently caving into secularization. God Bless Patriarch Kirill. The Pope has many friends in high places.

Do they really!?. Not from what I have seen. Look at the Archdiocese of Vienna for example.

Personally, I’m postitive the Church has done exactly this… More over, I’m now thankful that the heritics outted them selves in the 70s and 80s after Vatican II… This is not all too dissimilar from say, Nicea after which the Arians went nuts, gaining power, and very nearly taking over the Church sans Rome and for as long as Athenatious could hold it Alexandria.

Like Nicea, I’m convinced Vatican II contains the weponds to undo those whom would have seen the corruption of Christs body on earth.

Its interesting to me what gets labled compromising with the secular world. In the Pentecostal tradition, one pastor sees the decline of women in leadership as a compromise with the secular world. Women were leaders in Pentecostalism from its beginnings. Pentecostals would see some things people in the CC and OC do as compromise with the world.

From one pastor’s blog

pastorjonathanmartin.com/uncategorized/getting-it-right-this-time-on-ordaining-women-as-bishops-in-the-church-of-god/

As Grant Wacker’s work suggests, the decline of women in authoritative roles in the Pentecostal church in North America had everything to do with cultural accommodation in the mid-20th century, not convictions about Scripture. Empowering women to serve as bishops in the Church of God is more about reclaiming our heritage rather than forsaking it. Their belief in the Spirit as the source of authority overturned traditional power structures imposed by the world.

Or he could worry about the secularization problem in his own country. Like trying to stop the Russian population from aborting themselves out of existence.

Yes the Magisterium is holding secularism at bay. Of course there are forces in the church seeking to fall into the pit of liberalism and in some dioceses and parishes grave abuses take place.

But on the whole the churches teaching regarding morality remains unchanged, what has been taught will never be changed and as we speak the Church works to root out those who would seek to corrupt the whole.

So yes some of the clergy seek to compromise with the world. But on the whole it is kept at bay. If it had not then we’d see the acceptance of abortion, homosexual marriage, women clergy and other such things that have befallen other christian communities that have fallen into such heresies precisely because they are not guided by a body such as the universal magisterium or sacred tradition.

So id say that yes the magisterium keeps us free of theological error. As to more worldy abuses i stated that there are those that seek to change the church and there are sinners in the church. But it is indeed fact that the magisterium combats this unceasingly and thus holds such abuses at bay within the whole. Notably the statistics on various abuses amongst the clergy show that they are lower then in public education (in america at least) and in comparable protestant communities. Thats not to say that such abuses are not a problem however.
