This is nothing new. All pre-schism saints are allowed to be venerated.

Indeed, we even have a western rite, albeit a small one. Many Popes of Rome are saints in the Orthodox Church such as St. Gregory the Great (the Servant of the servants of God).

Nice. But I agree with others’ objections; the wording makes it sound like they didn’t have Western saints up till now.
 
It’s more accurate to say that these Saints have been officially added to the Russian Church’s calendar. In the Latin Church we only commemorate a couple hundred saints with universal memorials…thousands of others may be venerated but don’t have a mandatory memorial on the calendar.
There was an icon of St Patrick at my relatives’ OCA parish in Alberta.
 
As far as I’m concerned, “Three Cheers” for anything that brings the Eastern and Western brothers and sisters closer together - no matter how small.
