I thought Ruthenian Catholics were in communion with Rome? I just read earlier, Ruthenian Catholics weren’t in communion with Rome. What is it??? Are they or aren’t they? LOL
I, once, went to a Byzantine Ruthenian Church and received Communion. They were listed in the Yellow Pages with all of the other Catholic churches. The liturgy was beautiful and I assumed that I was attending a Catholic church with the Byzantine Rite.I thought Ruthenian Catholics were in communion with Rome? We Ruthenian Catholics are in communion with Rome. If not then my superior in the Carmelites would have a lot to say to me.I thought Ruthenian Catholics were in communion with Rome? The Ruthenian Catholic Church Sui Iuris aka the Byzantine Catholic Metropolitan Church of Pittsburgh, aka the Carpetho-Rusyn Greek Catholic Church, is in communion.I thought Ruthenian Catholics were in communion with Rome? Say all of that ten times fastThe Ruthenian Catholic Church Sui Iuris aka the Byzantine Catholic Metropolitan Church of Pittsburgh, aka the Carpetho-Rusyn Greek Catholic Church, is in communion.
The Byzantine Catholic Church, Incorporated, is a vagante group with a confusingly similar name out of communion with everyone but themselves. They appear to use the Ruthenian Recension as well.
The American Carpetho-Rusyn Orthodox Diocese schismed off from the Ruthenian Catholic Church in the early 20th C, and later came into communion with the Eastern Orthodox Patriarch of Byzantium. They are sometimes called Ruthenian Orthodox.
There is an Old Catholic jurisdiction which also uses the Ruthenian Recension… and refers to themselves as Catholics. “Old Catholic” means “In communion with Utrecht, not Rome”.

Both are the Catholic Church so they are the same faith. My father was a Byzantine Catholic and my mother was Roman Catholic. I followed my mother’s faith.
That’s part of the Metropolia of Pittsburgh. It’s changed names tho… to " Holy Protection of Mary Eparchy of Phoenix" (there are are a half dozen variations on the name in use already…)The Ruthenian Byzantine Church I went to mentioned in the Yellow Pages “Eparchy of Van Nuys” (California)
Thanks for the information. As I previously mentioned, the liturgy was beautiful. That’s part of the Metropolia of Pittsburgh. It’s changed names tho… to " Holy Protection of Mary Eparchy of Phoenix" (there are are a half dozen variations on the name in use already…)
The Metropolitan Church of Pittsburgh is all of the following
Note that the Eparchy of Mukachevo is also Ruthenian Catholic, as is the Greek-Catholic Exarchate of the Czech Republic… but they are not in fact functioning as part of the metropolitan church sui iuris, but as a separate eparchial and exarchial church, respectively.
- Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, PA
- Eparchy of Passaic, NJ
- Eparchy of Parma, OH
- Eparchy of the Protection of Mary of Phoenix, AZ (Formerly Van Nuys)
Just a question-Both are the Catholic Church so they are the same faith.
According to the Church though you are a member of the Byzantine Catholic Church your father belonged to.
