For those who actually expereinced a real séance:
  1. When you contacted your ancestors how did that experience differ from when you just talk with them and asked them for intercessory prayer?
2 Do you thik those how condemn séances actually don’t have any experience of attending a séance?
3.Do you think people need to experience a séance in order to fully understand what it is all about?
  2. Do you thik that just watching a séance on Youtube can be dangerous?

You didn’t provide an answer category for “none of the above”.

I would’ve thought that séances are against Catholic doctrine?

It is condemned by God and in the bible

It is not your ancestors you are speaking to but fallen spirits/angels

Before I became Catholic, I used to hold séances. My advice is to keep as far away from them as you can. Those contacted during a séance are not your ancestors or the spirits of anyone, but demons masquerading as the spirits of people. ***This is extremely dangerous. ***It opens the door for evil to enter your life in a very real and tangible way. Even just attending a séance opens you to this evil influence. Once this door is opened, it is extremely difficult to close again.

Praying for those who have passed on and asking for intercessory prayer from those who have gone before us, like Mary and the Saints, is nothing like a séance. Again, those contacted in a séance are evil spirits/demons, not saints or your ancestors. In a séance, you call up the spirits, in prayer, you do not.

Yes, I think even just watching a séance on youtube will open the door to that evil.

Even now, after 32 years as a faithful, practicing Catholic, I still have problems with evil spirits. They manifest in different ways. One lurked about my house and made itself known with a feeling of great fear, terrible evil and a really bad smell. Just last night, satan was in my dreams.

**Do not have anything to do with séances. It imperils your immortal soul.

:thumbsup:Amen!👍
That is why it is condemned, not because God wants to keep us from our departed loved-ones but to protect us from the fallen angels who wants nothing more but to destroy us.

3.Do you think people need to experience a séance in order to fully understand what it is all about?
And one may need to experience Hell to know what that is all about. Frankly, my curiosity is limited.

Catholics, including Eastern Orthodox Catholics (well, really all Christians andJews to be technical) are not supposed to engage in any occult practices such as trying to contact the dead. The Bible forbids such practices:

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.”–Leviticus 19:31 ESV

" Occult Practices ] When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there."–Deuteronomy 18:9 NIV

“Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance,”–1 Chronicles 10:13

They are not your relatives !!
They are demons !!
Demons !!
Demons !!

Also, such a sin is of grave matter and is very dangerous. It can lead to demonic possession.

No such thing for real. It’s condemned by the Catholic Church. Charletans who claim to contact your dead relatives and deliver messages are frauds and fakes. Seances can open up a window into a world you really want nothing to do with. Demons are real.

They are con-artists!
Liars!
Deluded!

Anyone prepared to give evidence of a ‘real’ seance? Or are we ready to grow up, be adults and admit that it’s all a bunch of nonsense?

👍

Linda, sorry for your experiences, good advice, I hope the dreams go away, and thanks for sharing . I only pray to the Father and Jesus, we don’t know for sure where anybody who passed on went.

Well, Christians believe in the spiritual, so to that extent, we do believe there are angels and demons. Now, that doesn’t mean we believe anything that could be attributable to angels or demons is in fact from them, however it would be wrong for us to pretend they don’t exist at all or that they have no relevance.

I would discourage even wondering about them.

I think you should hang a Crucifix somewhere in your home, where you spend the most quiet time. And begin to contemplate daily on the Cross, daily prayer recitation, church, Bible is a must also.

All the above quoted? I would avoid it. You really do live in physical world where the supernatural interacts daily. In fact it could be stated, what you see in the physical as reality, isn’t reality. So I repeat my first paragraph here. 👍

Peace

The church advises us to avoid séances…partaking of any experiences of that nature (supernatural) open door ways to mischievous spirits.

Ever wonder in the old testament ever time Jesus turned a corner there was an evil spirit to cast out?

Because there was still ‘idol worshiping’ going on like Baal for instance. Sure these Baal like gods would do things for you too but they were all evil minded.

The 1st commandment was chosen “1st” for a very good reason.

 You won’t pray to the Holy Spirit?
