S prazdnikom!

Do we have any parishioners here whose altar feast day it was today?

I was blest to be at my home-away-from-home for their altar feast and doubly blest that this year of the many Churches dedicated to St. Nicholas in his diocese Bishop Benjamin was there for their altar feast. He said that if you do not include holy icons to the Mother of God and Christ God, that the icons of St. Nicholas are the most numerous in Orthodox Churches. We have three of them in my EC parish-- one being on our iconostasis. I do feel a great devotion to this saint and venerate his icon inside our temple on the wall next to our confession/penance analogion.

Several of us including our deacon were there for the festal vigil last night and I was there for joyous DL today, as well as the wonderful feast (and raffle which raised over $1,000 for the nuns at the local monastery!) afterwards. I’ve been home about an hour and I’m still just overjoyed and trouble getting back to work to prepare for RCIA this evening. 🙂

I was also blest to go with a few folks from the Berkeley OCF to a Greek St. Nicholas parish on Sunday evening for veneration of a number of relics during a Paraklesis and an Akathist to St. Nicholas, a dinner and then two talks sponsored by the parish and the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute St. Nicholas in Hymnology and Visual Images. I wish I could reproduce the program here for that evening. The Paraklesis was in Greek so I don’t know what was chanted in that, but the Akathist was in English and text for both were included in the program.

This isn’t of course one of the Twelve Great Feasts but it really ranks way up there for me being especially the altar feast of this parish which has given me so much.

I hope some others here were able to share in Liturgy the joy of the feast of this great saint, Hierarch Father Nicholas. 😃
