Sabbath day?

To continue for those interested…

Sabbath keepers argue that it is the example of Jesus that gives us the reason for keeping the Sabbath.“He kept the Sabbath, so I must keep the Sabbath. Jesus is my example,” they say. This kind of reasoning is flawed because it only chooses Jesus’ Sabbath keeping and rejects the rest of His Jewish lifestyle. Jesus also kept Kosher laws. He kept the Passover, Sukkot, Hanukkah, and worshipped in the temple. Are we to follow everything He did?

Galatians 4:4-5 says that Jesus lived under the Law to redeem us from the Law.

"But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons."

JESUS WAS ALSO ACCUSED OF SABBATH BREAKING. Why, if He wanted to be our “example” in Sabbath keeping didn’t He make it clear that He was not breaking the Sabbath? Instead He clearly admits to it. He also admits that His disciples were breaking the Sabbath and He defends them. Read Matthew 12:1- 14 carefully. Jesus is clearly saying that His disciples are like the priests who may work in the temple every Sabbath and be innocent of breaking the Sabbath. When Jesus says that He is “Lord of the Sabbath” He is declaring that He is above the Sabbath. He may do what He wishes on the Sabbath and therefore His disciples may do whatever they wish as well.

Apparently Jesus did break the Sabbath: ***“Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, “This man is not from God, because He does not keep the ******Sabbath.”…” ****John 9:15.*If Jesus did not want us to understand that He was breaking the Sabbath why did He not speak against these accusations. It’s because Jesus had the right and the authority to break the Sabbath because He is Lord of the Sabbath. The Sabbath does not bind Him. Think about this, if it does not bind Him, are we not “in Christ”? Why would it be any more binding upon us. (Again Read Matthew 12:1-14 carefully).

One of the issues that needs to be honestly faced is the fact that Jesus never commanded anyone to keep the Sabbath and none of His apostles ever commanded anyone to keep it either. Not once in the New Testament are we told to keep the Sabbath. Those commands to the Church are conspicuously absent from the teachings of the New Testament.

EVERY MENTION OF THE SABBATH IN THE BOOK OF ACTS without a single exception is in connection with Jewish worship on that day and not Christian celebration. Paul’s evangelistic strategy was to go to the Jews first in a community and share the Gospel with them. Sabbath is the day when he knew he would find the most Jews gathering for worship. He knew he would have his best opportunity of sharing the good news of the Messiah to the Jews on Sabbath. It was not because he was meeting with a group of believing Christians. He was meeting with non-Christian Jews.

I also want anyone reading these posts to recognize how many arguements this fella blantently ignores. The SDA sect like other cults when cornered will never focus on the topics at hand, but rather create diversions and distarctions to tget the focus off the real meat. I asked a question earlier and no reply was given so I ask it again to Twagler:

Ellen White the SDA’s prophetic guru said in a vision she saw the “hand of the pope” changing the sabbath from Saturady to Sunday. WHICH POPE WAS SHE REFERRING TO? I will continue to bring this to your attention because if you cannot answer your house of cards will fall and in good conscience you should leave the SDA cult amen?

OH yeah, I almost forgot. When you brought up the wedding rings, I almost fell out of my chair. You should seriously go and find what the story is behind the wedding ring. I think you’ll be surprised.
Diversion # 1: Wedding rings are evil!

How about the clothes you are wearing or the car you drive or the job you go to or the pagan calander you use everyday and on and on and on…paaleeaase!! Everything in this culture in stained, you must live in a bubble friend? Be real with us ok and stop the holy act. Lets be mature about this, we don’t have to resort to cheap shots. By the way you should not have lied about being SDA, doesn’t earn you many points. I belive "Seventh Day and SDA are essentially the same thing. We love you brother and are glad your here, let’s just be mature adults.

SDA will ask for Old Covenant evidence to support Sunday worship, here is some good info:

LEVITICUS 23:5-11 - Look at verse 11:
"'And he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord for you to be accepted; on the day after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.’" The day after the Sabbath is Sunday.
Read on specifically looking at Leviticus 23:15 - "'You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete sabbaths. You shall count fifty days to the DAY AFTER THE SEVENTH SABBATH; then you shall present a new grain offering to the Lord.’" This is the Feast of Pentecost. It was one of the compulsory feasts of Israel.

Note on the day of Pentecost, a Sunday God’s people were commanded to worship. God says,*** “On this same day you shall make a proclamation as well; you are to have a ******holy convocation. You shall do no laborious work. It is to be perpetual statute in all your dwelling places throughout your generations.” ***Leviticus 23:21.

If you think this is only applying to “ceremonial” days, Leviticus 23 starts out talking about the weekly Sabbath (see Lev. 23:1-4). It is called an appointed time and a holy convocation, along with all the other feast days of Israel. No distinction is made by God between these holy days and the weekly Sabbath. He includes them as being equally holy. This would mean that under the Old Covenant the First Fruits Sunday and the Pentecost Sunday were as holy and sanctified as Saturday.

If you think this only applies to Israel, that’s our point. The Ten Commandment Covenant, --the Old Covenant was made with Israel, and NOT with the Gentiles.

Look at Exodus 31:13, 16 and 17: "But as for you, speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'You shall surely observe My sabbaths; for this is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you…So the sons of Israel shall observe the sabbath, to celebrate the sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever;…"

If believing in all of the commandments makes me SDA…then so be it.

I have to study for exam.

That’s taking the easy way out Trav, but there is more meat to this than simply saying “I follow the Old Covenant Ten Commandments so that makes me special” or “SDA”…

Here is what the Catholic Church has to say about the matter:

**1964 **The Old Law is a preparation for the Gospel. “The Law is a pedagogy and a prophecy of things to come.” It prophesies and presages the work of liberation from sin which will be fulfilled in Christ: it provides the New Testament with images, “types,” and symbols for expressing the life according to the Spirit. Finally, the Law is completed by the teaching of the sapiential books and the prophets which set its course toward the New Covenant and the Kingdom of heaven.

*There were . . . under the regimen of the Old Covenant, people who possessed the charity and grace of the Holy Spirit and longed above all for the spiritual and eternal promises by which they were associated with the New Law. Conversely, there exist carnal men under the New Covenant still distanced from the perfection of the New Law: the fear of punishment and certain temporal promises have been necessary, even under the New Covenant, to incite them to virtuous works. In any case, even though the Old Law prescribed charity, it did not give the Holy Spirit, through whom “God’s charity has been poured into our hearts.” *

IS THE TEN COMMANDMENT LAW ETERNAL?

No, the Law is not eternal. Galatians 3:19 gives the purpose of the Law. It says: ***"What, then, was the purpose of he law? It was added because of transgressions ***until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come."

The law was given 430 years after Abraham. ***“What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.” ***Galatians 3:17-18.

The Law had a definite beginning time (430 years after Abraham) and a definite ending time, --When the promised Seed (Christ, vs. 16) came.

Other Scriptures such as Romans 5:12-14 indicate that there can be sin in the world, even BEFORE the Law was given. "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned – for until the Law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of Adam’s offense, who is a type of Him who was to come."

**Cathecism #1967 **The Law of the Gospel “fulfills,” refines, surpasses, and leads the Old Law to its perfection. In the Beatitudes, the New Law fulfills the divine promises by elevating and orienting them toward the “kingdom of heaven.” It is addressed to those open to accepting this new hope with faith - the poor, the humble, the afflicted, the pure of heart, those persecuted on account of Christ and so marks out the surprising ways of the Kingdom.

CatMan:
Do all Religions follow the Sabbath day? I know as Catholics, we should not do any work on Sunday’s, but do Evangelicals and Protestaants believe this too?
The Hebrew Sabbath was on Saturday, but since Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday, it became the Lords Day and the Church started worshiping on that day. So we celebrate our Sabbath on the Lords Day.

yqbd:
why is there a requirement for sunday?
Acts 20:7 And on the first day of the week, when we were assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed with them.
“And on the first day of the week”… Here the Christians even at this time, must have changed the sabbath into the first day of the week, (the Lord’s day,) as all Christians now keep it. This change was undoubtedly made by the Authority of the Church; hence the exercise of the power, which Christ had given to her: for he is Lord of the sabbath.

Yours in Christ.

I believe our Blessed Mother is the Queen of the Sabbath. This day is still special to her because it was the day her Son was dead and lay in a tomb. Her loneliness and sorrow must have been tremendous. I believe she still honors the Sabbath (Holy Saturday) and honors those who console her heart on Holy Saturday. Here is an ancient Jewish Sabbath prayer that is still used to usher in the Sabbath day by orthodox Jews:

*"Come, my Beloved.
Let us welcome Sabbath the Bride, Queen of our days.

Come, let us all greet Sabbath, Queen sublime,
Fountain of blessings in every clime.
Annointed and regal since earliest time,
In thought she preceded Creation’s six days.

Come, my Beloved.
Let us welcome Sabbath the Bride, Queen of our days.

Arise and shake off the dust of the earth.
Wear glorious garments reflecting your worth.
Messiah will lead us all soon to rebirth.
My soul now senses redemption’s warm rays.

Come, my Beloved.
Let us welcome Sabbath the Bride, Queen of our days.

Awake and arise to greet the new light
For in your radiance the world will be bright.
Sing out, for darkness is hidden from sight.
The Lord through you His glory displays.

Come, my Beloved.
Let us welcome Sabbath the Bride, Queen of our days.

Then your destroyers will themselves be destroyed;
Ravagers, at great distance, will live in a void.
Your God then will celebrate you, overjoyed,
As a groom with his bride when his eyes meet her gaze.

Come, my Beloved.
Let us welcome Sabbath the Bride, Queen of our days.

All rise and turn to the entrance in a symbolic greeting
of the Bride, Sabbath

Come in peace, soul mate, sweet gift of the Lord,
Greeted with joy and in song so adored
Amidst God’s people, in faith in accord.
Come, Bride Sabbath; come, crown of the days.

Come, my Beloved.
Let us welcome Sabbath the Bride, Queen of our days."

On June 13, the Blessed Virgin again appeared to the three children:

There were about 70 people present, though only the children could see the apparition. She told the youngsters that many souls go to Hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them. She said Francisco and Jacinta would soon leave the world for Heaven. Holding out her heart, surrounded by thorns which pierced it from all sides, Our Lady told Lucy:* **“God wishes you to remain in the world for some time because He wants to use you to establish in the world the devotion to my Immaculate Heart. I promise salvation to those who embrace it, and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by myself to adorn His throne.” *****(10) **

This shows how devotion to the Immaculate Heart is central to the Fatima message. Subsequent events reemphasize the importance of Our Lady teaching this devotion at Fatima.

In her July apparition, Our Lady further revealed her plan to the children and to the world:

During her appearance in July, Our Lady, in answer to Lucia’s plea, promised that in October she would work a great miracle so that all might believe and know who she was. Again, the Mother of God told the children to sacrifice themselves for sinners and to say many times, especially when making a sacrifice, this prayer: ***“0 my Jesus, I offer this for love of Thee, for the conversion of poor sinners, and in reparation for all the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” (11) ***

During this same July apparition, Mary showed the three children a vision of Hell. She told them:

You have seen Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish, in the world, devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If people do what I tell you, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.

***The war (World War I, then raging) is going to end. But if people do not stop offending God, another and worse one will begin in the reign of Pius XI. When you shall see a night illuminated by an unknown light **[January 2, 1938], know that this is the great sign that God gives you that He is going to punish the world for its many crimes by means of war, hunger, and persecution of the Church and the Holy Father. *(12)

To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the five first Saturdays. If my requests are granted, Russia will be converted and there will be peace. if not, she will scatter her errors throughout the world, provoking wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, and various nations will be destroyed…

***But in the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph, the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, Russia will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. ***(13)

In the above, Mary speaks of the five first Saturdays. Here is what the practice involves:

**Go to confession, which may be done from eight days before to eight days after the first Saturday. Of course, if a person is in the state of serious sin, the confession must be made before receiving communion. **

**Receive Holy Communion. **

**Recite five decades of the Rosary. **

Meditate for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Rosary.

**All of the above (except confession) must be done on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart. For those who make the five first Saturdays, Our Lady of Fatima has promised to assist them at the hour of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation. **
