one of the objects to catholic among some Protestants is that we changed the sabbath day to Sunday from Saturday the Jewish sabbath and becuase we work on the sabbath (saturday) we are going to hell

so simple question what is the reasoning behind switching the sabbath to Sunday?

id prefer biblical reasoning if at all possible

Next time an Adventist tells you you’re going to hell for working on the Sabbath, tell him he’s going to hell because he’s not subject to the Roman Pontiff.

We changed the day to Sunday because we could. There are several non-Biblical reasons for this, but since you are only interested in Biblical:
  • Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. (Colossians 2:16-17)

Nine and a half of the ten commandments are just a restatement of Natrual Law, which applies to all people in all times regardless of religion. That Saturday should be counted as the seventh day in the cycle of weeks is a matter of divine revelation that cannot be known from mere human reason alone. But the designation of Saturday is part of the ritual rules that were canceled as soon as Jesus died. Therefore the Church is free to designate some other day if it wishes. We chose Sunday because it is appropriate for several reasons:
  • It is the day the universe was created, and the day Jesus was resurrected as a sort of new creation.
  • Just as the old week of work reached a climax in rest, the new week starts with victory over death and continues with the enjoyment of Christ’s completed work.
  • Jesus is the center of history; everything before him led up to him, and everything after him is because of him. So it makes sense that the weeks after him should start with a Sabbath instead of end with one.
