Dear all,

When I was reading through the Qur’an a few years back (sometimes I develop a curiosity toward other religions and do some research… not researching an alternative, merely collecting knowledge) I noticed in the very first book an interesting sentence:

“Those who believe, and the Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve.”

Asside from the obvious implications of the selection to some of today’s most heated ideological conflicts, I found the use of the term “Sabians” used to describe a protected religion. I have found out that it is a monotheistic religion along the lines of Islam, but not quite the same. They are also referred to as “baptizers”.

Does anyone know anything about Sabians?

God bless,

Agricola

They are now, in the present incarnation, most properly called “Mandaeans”, I believe, and there is a short article at:

bartleby.com/65/ma/Mandaean.html

…and though I sometimes doubt the veracity of Wikipedia, there is an even more extensive article on the Sabians at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabians (that, on the whole, seems to be more enlightening).

As well as the Mandaens, I believe that Zoroastrians are also considered “people of the Book”, but I could be wrong.

Hey Agricola,

Didn’t know you had read the Qua’ran… I learn something new about you every day… Muy interesante! 😉
