There are rumors that the interview with Bishop Williamson was planned to twart the reconciliation between the Holy See and the SSPX. by liberal elements within the Catholic Church in Sweden or Europe.

What are your opinions?

I have a friend that says “the Devil is NOT under every rock…but he is under every other rock.” Maybe we should stop turning over all the rocks?

Stop looking for a conspiracy everywhere. Rumors are scandalous. They frequently have errors and are full of half truths. Maybe we should let this all settle out and see what happens. Let’s enjoy a time of healing and refreshment. Reflect on the good that has been done yesterday. There are and will be issues that must be resolved and I pray that God will give each the grace necessary to see the reconciliation to completion.

In the meantime, let’s be circumspect in our words and actions and not pick open old wounds because WE here have some misplaced need to be “right” in this matter. Our Pope has spoken. Let’s move forward with Grace and Charity for each other.

You mean a conspiracy to get him to again deny the holocaust and restate that he thinks the US planned 9/11? That is this guy, right?

Yes, but he certainly has a lot of company. These aren’t infallibility issues, are they? 🙂

Really??? This must be the guy that I caught on the news saying that Germany had collective guilt over the 6 million Jews and that there were not 6 million Jews killed. As if the number were only 3 million that would change something!! Then the report went on to say that he denied that there were crematoriums. So has he really actually denied the holocaust AND blamed the U.S. for 9/11???

I don’t see how we can really rejoice in this since a person involved has brought such embarrassment to the Church and caused terrible pain to our Jewish friends.

I wouldn’t be surprised. There were a lot of pushes against the SP but the Pope managed to overcome them. We’ll trust that he’ll be able to ward off any attempts to undermine his lifting of the excommunications.

Sabotage? Highly doubtful. The press could care less about the reconciliation itself, and there is no reason to “sabotage” the effort. What they “go for the throat” for are things that they perceive to be politically incorrect.

Other than what I’ve seen in some recent threads here, I know nothing of the bishop in question. From what I’ve heard, he does not seem like the kind of person that I would want to know personally: the impression I get from those who speak for and against him is that he’s just a tad close to the lunatic fringe, and that is a bit much for my taste. But that’s just an impression.

If he is a victim of bad PR, that will come out and be clarified. If he is indeed what he appears to be, that will come out as well. The last thing HMC needs at this juncture is another cause of division, and I sincerely doubt that PP Benedict XVI would tolerate that sort of behavior.

In other words, I don’t think it’s for anyone other than PP Benedict XVI and Mgr Fellay to worry about. The facts will get sorted out in the process of reconciliation. As I’ve said in other threads, I’m not an SSPX-er, although I am pleased that there is now an opportunity to heal the wounds of the past and allow that priestly fraternity to resume its place in the mainstream life of HMC.

There’s an article about it in today’s NY Times.

Pray for our Pope --for there are many wolves promoting and using out-right lies about Bishop Willliamson and the SSPX to undermine our Pope’s lifting of the excommunications.

Thanks, but I would prefer to read from something that is a little more, shall we say, journalistically unbiased. 😉

okay, I read it. Thanks.
