Yeah, I like the enclosed booths with wooden doors, but I think those things in the pictures above are better than those dreadful shrink office things that most parishes have nowadays.
I myself prefer face to face. I have been going through some very tough things right now. When I finished my confession last time and looked into the eyes of the priest…it was as close to looking into the eyes of Christ as I have ever known. I needed that.

I have a confessor like that! We are very blessed.

🙂 Which is why we need both options!

It varies from place to place…

Cathedrals often have daily confession. Shrines also could have.

Some parishes do. But generally they have a weekly schedule.

One can also make an appointment anytime…or just ask a Priest.
But if you make an appointment then you loose the ability to confess anonymously, right?

Not necessarily. You can ask the priest if you can meet in the church at the confessionals. When I make an appointment, I end up confessing face-to-face, but that doesn’t bother me.

Thankfully, we have enough scheduled times between our parish and neighboring ones, that we can go regularly.

But isn’t there something about having to look into the eyes of your priest that makes you think twice sometimes before committing a sin?

I think these reconcilliation rooms are ok, they just need a better screen, and the upmost privacy when the penitent is walking in. There is this modern church in my area with a built in confessional. 2 separate doors with a solid wall separating the priest and the penitent. And whenever you kneel the light goes off. I love it

However when I go to my home parish I go face to face for spiritual direction since I am discerning vocations

I do anonymous Confession behind the screen. My priest is from the FSSP, and that’s the only way they do it normally. My priest shields his face from the screen so he can’t see me at all.
