It depends how intense you want your commentary.If you want word by word, verse by vrese commentary the they’re for you.My pastor and I had a discussion about them.He said they were mind-numbingly longwinded.I have to agree.There is soo much in them that it boggles the mind and they can get very technical(every scholarly pursuit has it’s jargon-Biblical scholarship is no different) .If you’re new to biblical commentaries or biblical studies in general I would not recommend it.I’ve used New Jerome Biblical commentary<Collegeville Bible commentaries, the Navarre Bible Commentary, the Ignatius Bible study,JPS torah commentary, Anchor Bible Commentaries . I only have 1 sacra pagina commentary and i’ll never get another because they’re not reader friendly.
