Sacrament of Confirmation

Hi

The children from our parish are going to receive the sacrament of confirmation.

Just wanted to know - the meaning of the word confirmation used here as we would be presenting a skit to them.

1. Is it that the child is confirming the Holy Spirit within him/her he/she received at baptism, as now at a mature age the child is able to understand God and his teachings.
2. The person is now confirmed and becomes a full fledged Christian and a catholic receiving the fullness of the Holy Spirit just like what happened to the apostles at pentecost.

The bishop confirms their baptism and completes their Christian initiation through the anointing and imposition of hands, calling down the Holy Spirit in his seven fold gifts. It is the bishop who confirms, himself or through his delegated minister, and who calls the children to confirmation at this time. It is not an action the individual takes on his own initiative.

Neither.

It is there bishop who does the confirming, and what he is doing is confirming their baptism. Yes they receive additional gifts of the Holy Spirit.

CIC Canon 879 The sacrament of confirmation strengthens the baptized and obliges them more firmly to be witnesses of Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith. It imprints a character, enriches by the gift of the Holy Spirit the baptized continuing on the path of Christian initiation, and binds them more perfectly to the Church.

CCEO Canon 692 It is necessary that those who are baptized be chrismated with holy myron, that by a seal they be signed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and be made more proper witnesses and co-builders in the Kingdom of Christ.
