I thought that I had heard just about everything - until today

Someone mentioned to me that priest charge money to visit and give the sacrament of extreme unction. i.e. last rights. No $$$ no sacramental visit

I don’t believe this could possibly be true. but I thought that I should check it out via this forum

no it cannot be possibly true

since no one gave you a reliable source for this remarkable allegation, simply disregard it as another slur. we know the person is not telling truth if he is supposedly reporting a recent event, because the sacrament has not been called extreme unction for over 20 years. It is the sacrament of the anointing of the sick, and when joined with confession (if the person is able) and communion is what we mean by “last rites”.

You can pay for having masses offered too. Mass-stipends.

There are no fees for the sacraments only voluntary noncompulsory donations, gifts. After all even priests need money.

Can. 848 The minister is to seek nothing for the administration of the sacraments beyond the offerings defined by competent authority, always taking care that the needy are not deprived of the assistance of the sacraments because of poverty.

[EDIT: Canons 945-958 expressly permit and regulate the practice of Mass offerings, reiterating that the impoverished ought not be denied a Mass intention for lack of stipend]

If done according to the Extraordinary Form, the sacrament is still called Extreme Unction.
