Catholics know they can go to confession often. However, most don’t seem to realize that they must go at least once a year during the Easter season which ends on Pentacost Sunday.

However, most don’t seem to realize that they must go at least once a year during the Easter season which ends on Pentacost Sunday.

This is not accurate. The precept requires the faithful to receive the Eucharist at least once per year during the Easter season, hence the term “Easter duty.”

Can. 920 §1. After being initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, each of the faithful is obliged to receive holy communion at least once a year.

§2. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season unless it is fulfilled for a just cause at another time during the year.

Catholics are required to confess their grave sins at least once per year, and the Church makes no specification of when that should take place. And, it does not require those *without *grave sins to confess once per year.

Can. 989 After having reached the age of discretion, each member of the faithful is obliged to confess faithfully his or her grave sins at least once a year.

Mea culpa… Catholics are required to receive Communion at least once per year during the Easter season. They are required to confess mortal sins once per year at no specified time.
