Can a person who is not gravely ill and is spiritually in danger - receive the sacrament of the sick for the forgiveness of sin - I’m talking about a person who fell away from the church - lived a sinful life full of mortal sin - comes back to the church repetitive and truly wants absolution - but cannot possibly remember all their mortal sins and cannot do a full confession that could take years to remembering all the mortal sins they have committed or do they have to continually come back and confess as they remember constantly in danger of going to hell. Now in most cases if a proper confession is made all sins including sins forgotten have been forgiven - but wouldn’t it be better to offer this sacrament of the sick to such a spiritually sick person. What does the Church say about this.I’m just wondering whether its used also for people in spiritual danger and not only for the sick.

I was at church a couple of weeks ago and the priest was offering the sacrament and he was very clear not to come up if you were not sick - that only the sick should come up and the very old - so I sat there as he asked and wouldn’t you know it everyone young to old went up and received it - the whole church - except me and an older woman beside me who heeded the priests words.Did they receive full forgiveness of their sins? I wonder now if I should of gone up because of the graces offered by this sacrament.
Would you have gone up disregarding the priests instruction?Seems everyone got a clean slate that day except me and the old woman beside me.
I do go to confession every 4 weeks - first Saturday of every month - just to let you know.
