FATHER LAWRENCE ESTRADA
Sacramental Minister
“Have stole, will transubstantiate”
onelacatholic.blogspot.com/

25 years ago, Father Lawrence Estrada was ordained a priest at St. Vibiana’s Performing Arts Center/Hotel/Restaurant complex over on 2nd and Main. He’s held several assignments throughout those years, including a stint as Archbishop Roger M. Mahony’s priest-secretary, as well as serving as pastor of St. Stephen’s Church in Monterey Park from 1996 to 2003.

You can still find him at St. Stephen’s, but he doesn’t answer to “pastor” anymore. He is now the designated SACRAMENTAL MINISTER. He steps in when you absolutely need something to be done “ex opere operato.” For all your other pastoral needs, you must go to Sister Susie. You remember her.

“I love to vision for the future and think about how we’re going to get there,” said Sister Slater, [Parish Life Director] at St. Stephen Church in Monterey Park. “There’s enough work for all of us. It’s about doing it together and not being threatened by each other.”
As PASTORAL LIFE DIRECTOR at St. Stephen’s, Sister Susan Slater baptizes, she witnesses marriages, she officates at funerals and preaches homilies. She probably even dices and slices for all I know. And she does all this right smack in the middle of Los Angeles with Father Estrada just a few steps away. Isn’t that somethin’? Looks like the future is already here.

“Sacramental Minister.”
“Parish Life Director”

These terms form part of the specialized lexicon for the “new church” which is being “sung” into existence in L.A. by the painfully tone deaf Cardinal Roger Mahony. And about the only one at St. Stephen’s who is escatic about this radical retooling of parish life is Sister herself. No doubt she’d love to be the SACRAMENTAL SISTER, but since that’s an impossibility, PARISH LIFE DIRECTOR will do. After all, she is doing everything a priest does except transubstantiate. Theoreticaly, she can even hear confessions. That is to say, she can listen to peoples’ sins; she just can’t absolve them. But very likely Sister doesn’t believe in all that hocus pocus anyway.

This is all part of Mahony’s “broader” vision (no pun intended) to deal with a future with fewer and fewer priests. The Cardinal wrote about this in his pastoral letter, As I have done for you.“What is called for is a major reorientation in our thinking about ministry as well as in our ministerial practice.” Wittingly or not, what the Cardinal is promoting in his Archdiocese is nothing short of a kind of Frankensteinish tinkering with the priesthood. SACRAMENTAL MINISTER is really a euphemism for SACRAMENTAL MONSTER. Men are ordained to be priests, not sacramental machines. I do not know Father Estrada or what he thinks about all this, but I do feel very sorry for him. 25 years ago when he lay prostrate on the floor of St. Vibiana’s Cathedral, did he or anyone ever think it would come to this?

How long, O Lord?

I just read about this on FreeRepublic.com. It is an atrocity. Please, everyone out there, pray for holy priests. Pray for priests at the moment of consecration during Divine Liturgy, when Christ the High Priest is made sacramentally present. More than that, pray for holy women to enter religious orders. There is a greater crisis in the lack of female vocations to religious life.

I remember on one of Father John Corapi’s lectures he mentions that there is a very carefully orchestrated attack on the priesthood and the Eucharist from within the church itself.

In my former diocese, a nearby parish would illustrate this very effectively. After the consecration a large group of mostly laywomen would gather around the altar with the priest and pour the precious blood into glass vessels while others would take the pita-bread and break it into small pieces. Each Ext Eucharist Minister would take a piece of the host- hold it in their hand, and after the priest consumed the host they would all self-communicate like they were concelebrating mass. Needless to say, the liturgist at this parish was a “sister” who also had a strange fetish for young women (holding pots of incence) dancing during the Mass.

This article is the church that so many of the dissenters and heterodox look forward to and have worked so hard to create. It was done by creating a priest shortage, denying faithful men into the priesthood for being “too rigid”, and improper and heretical catechesis to blind the laity.

It haunts me to think what the church will be like in a generation since we take our priests for granted.

I am encouraged by signs I see though that indicate the lay faithful are fed up with these kinds of liturgical abuses—and that emboldens faithful priests and bishops to stand up against them too!

MY GOD, I believe, I adore, I trust, and I love Thee!
I ask pardon for for those who do not believe,
do not adore, do not trust and do not love Thee.

Such as these are the true apostates in the church!

Let me get this straight, the local Bishop is aware of this?

Well, this IS under Cardinal Mahoney’s watch, so I’m not surprised. Disgusted, but not surprised. :crying:

This is one of those times when we could really use a puking smilie.

Couldn’t Pope Benedict XVI call Mahony to Rome? That way, he can’t do any more damage to LA. Other than that, the only other thing that could help is if California falls into the Pacific. 😦

i think i’ve seen one. green stuff!. i don’t know where, i still haven’t figured out how to post pictures. i got a photobucket account yesterday. but i still don’t know to get from thither to hither.

Will this female priests be presiding over Wiccan masses as well? 😃

I may catch alot of heat for this comment but I really don’t think nuns should be in leadership positions. They have already ruined their own religious orders so why should they have the opportunity to spread their “vision” to the rest of the Church.
