Sacramentals: What Do You Wear & Why?

Miraculous medal of my grandmother’s that my mom gave to her, then to me after she passed. I feel naked without it–it connects me to Our Lady and her intercession, as well as the family that passed on the faith to me. During Lent I also wear a beautiful crucifix that my husband gave me.

Also my wedding ring, except when I’m at work (I’m a nurse)–don’t want it to collect organisms from my patients (or pass any on to them), or scratch the babies . . .

I also carry a rosary at most times (have a pocket one tucked in my scrubs) and have squirreled them away in every room but the garage and bathrooms. I like the idea of having one at every doorway (thanks, puzzleannie!).
 
I wear the brown scapular (the one with a crucifix and St. Benedict medal attached) and carry the rosary in my pocket. Why? Because of the many graces attached to these sacramentals. When anyone asks about the scapular I tie in the verses from Ephesians about putting on the armor of God.🙂

It depends. Mostly a Guadalupe medal; sometimes a Guadalupe scapular; sometimes a St Benedict medal; and very occasionally a St Benedict scapular.
 
I wear a green scapular to remind me to focus on my faith and my destination as I go through the conversion process. 🙂
 
I wear a brown scapular…because Mother Mary gave it to us…and it is a perfect little conscience as to what is a modest shirt and what is not…if you can see it I"m wrong:blush: .
I wear a St. Philomena cord to protect my purity…
I wear a four way medal and St. Benedict Crucifix…because our battle is against principalities and powers…the two most powerful choir of fallen angels!
So I rock, rattle, and roll;) !

I keep forgetting…it IS a sacramental…

frankly m’dear…I would have a hard time removing mine…my hands are all wrinkly and knobby:eek:
 
I usually wear a brown scapular tied to my undergarments. I always wear my wedding ring. I also wear a crusifix that was touched to my son who was born dead at about 14 weeks. I wear a Marian metal that I change out when I find a new cool one. I also have a small metal box with a small piece of blanket from my preborn children who have died. I know the church hasn’t declared them Saints, but I feel they are my intercessors. Joseph Marie was consecrated to the Sacred Heart Of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary before he died at 14 weeks. Theresa also was born dead at 31 weeks after conception. She was born on Mother’s Day. I ask St. Theresa to give her to Mary as her Mother’s Day gift. I got two dozen roses that day. I believe Baby Theresa was in Mary’s arms in heaven.
 
I wear my wedding ring and a St. Brendan medal that my godson gave to me.
 
I randomly pick between the following (though lately not so random since I just got a new medal in the form of #1 below):

-a St. Bruno medal (have recently become attached to this saint)
-A “square” cross (forget the name for it)
-St. Francis medal (my confirm saint)
-a Miraculous Medallion

I ony wear one at a time though for a while I wore a medal from above with a rosary – then the rosary broke 😦

and my wedding ring.
 
I wear a cross, but I did not know that it could be considered a sacremental. Just wondering, does your cross have to be blessed in order to considered a sacremental? The one I wear was a gift given at Christmas, purchased from a jewelry store.

Yes, I believe that it should be blessed in order to be a sacramental.
 
A Benidictine crucifx, St. Micheal medal, M.M. and a brown scapular. The scapular, not as much as I should lately. I was told during a confession to get that exact crucifix. The Priest showed me his 4 inch crucifix which was exactly the same as mine, but I had a smaller version. It was confirming in nature. The St. Micheal medal because of an experience I had. The MM because of devotion. The scapular because of the enrolment. Tim

I wear my wedding ring, small cross post earrings, and one chain, a little heavier than i would normally wear, with, from left to right, a small Navy medal I sent to my Mom from boot camp, my prayer box, a crucifix, a miraculous medal, and my precious baby feet. The crucifix is just enough larger than the other things so it seems to always land on top, front and center (the way it should be 🙂 ). I work in an elementary school and the kids are always asking why I wear these and I tell them because they are important things in my life, with Jesus at the center. It makes an impression.
 
Miraculous Medal, Celtic Cross (ironically, the two constant pieces of jewelry I wore during my Witch days), Wedding ring, and when I remember- the Scapular.

I would also love to get a wrap rosary.

Dear Dkoinzan? and all friends
from childhood we have been thought to wear the brown scapular and I have worn it for a sizeable time in my life. I have been wearing it constantly except for showering for the last 10 years.
someone mentioned wearing the scapular when they go out? Well in order to enjoy the blessings and the Sabbatine privilege you need to be wearing it at all times. Another thing I’m not sure some of these items you mention are really sacramentals!! Celtic cross and others.
Also rosaries around the waist and the neck not sure if this is an approved way of wearing the rosary?
And Dkonzian how can wearing a brown scapular with your undergarments be anything but disrespectful? Scapulars are blessed and meant to be worn around the neck or carried on your person in case of the scapular medal not attached to your clothes but to you!!
People don’t fall into your own cult mentality before wearing any such thing as a rosary or any thing other than a blessed medal ask a priest for advice.
Not wearing a sacramental is bad but wearing too many is also bad as well!
Do you agree I mean is there a competition betweeen Mary and St Benedict and St Bruno and Jesus?
If you wear one sacramental as a medal or scapular and a crucifix it should suffice and wear them at home too or do you think the devil is only outside your homes?
Dkonzian sorry but your children in heaven cannot be your intercessors !! only proclaimed saints and blessed and the souls in purgatory whoever they are can intercede!!
 
I know the my babies in heaven have prayed on my behalf, interceeded. Read more about the mass. Saints don’t compete they are all working to get us into heaven. I wear the scapular on my undergarments because the children I take care of break them I am sure Jesus understands the circumstances. The declared Saints are the people the Church has assured us have made it to heaven. Anyone who is in heaven is a Saint and all Saints can pray for us. Listen to your Mass. We join all the angels and Saints as we sing. We pray for and with the souls in pergatory. I won’t debate this agian out of respect for the other people on the thread. Thank you.

There aren’t ‘approved’ ways of wearing the Rosary. The church is silent on the matter. As long as you’re not wearing it in a way that is disrespectful or as a mere fashion item.

Wearing one, for example, around the neck but underneath your shirt so it can’t be seen, is an entirely appropriate expression and reminder of our faith.

As for around the waist - Dominicans (priests and nuns from the order of St Dominic who basically came up with the Rosary as we know it today) wear one attached to the belt of their habits. If it’s fine for them it’s fine for us.

i wear a my brown scapular, a crucifix that my grandma got me for confirmation ont eh same chain as a st. anthi=ony medal and st micheal medal, and a rosary
 
I wear the scapular medal of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel which has the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the other side.😃
I frequently carry around a rosary in my pocket or in my bag with various medals attached to it.
