Sacraments and vocation correlations

I think my friend who is a consecrated virgin hermit leads a life that I don’t really think you have considered.

God calls us to different vocations. It is holy orders. Her hermitage and her vocation is under the Bishop’s control. She works as a sacristan at my parish and returns home for prayer and meditation.

There are different vocational paths one can follow.
 
Holy Orders is ordination to diaconate, priesthood, or the episcopacy. It is distinct from taking vows as a consecrated religious, whether in an order or as a hermit.
 
How would you classify a nun, a consecrated virgin, and a hermit? If it isn’t holy orders, what are they? Would a religious brother who isn’t a priest or deacon be the same way?
 
Deacons, priests, and bishops, whether they are members of a religious order or not, have received the sacrament of Holy Orders. To be a brother or a sister, having taken vows in a religious order, is just that–the consecrated religious life. Women cannot receive the sacrament of Holy Orders, and religious profession does not equate to the sacrament of Holy Orders. Some members of religious orders are priests, but to profess vows as a religious and to receive the sacrament of Orders are two different things. One is a sacrament, and one is not.

And I would know, being as I’ve received the sacrament of Holy Orders. Twice.
