Hello All!

I heard this statement earlier today and was given no background information except that it was said by a little girl and a grown adult thought that it was rather wise and intelligent:

In response to the question as to how many Sacraments there are, the little girl said: “Seven for boys and six for girls.”

I think we all know which side is trying to say that this is rather wise (perhaps because of ulterior motives).

Your thoughts?

Thank you,
-Andre

Also, 6 for priests.
Not necessarily since some Eastern Rites ordain married men and even in the West there have been countless examples of widowers being ordained.

As for the statement quoted by the OP - it is of course quite accurate, in a sense. However, it tends to misunderstand the nature and purpose of the sacraments - it’s not about collecting the whole set!

I think we know that. He was just telling a cute story.

My first thought was that while Holy Orders may only be received by ‘boys’ it’s really for all of us as the priest becomes a servant of all through the sacrament.

This is my thought as well, now that I’m a woman in her mid-40s. When I was a child, however, all I was told about it was, “Holy Orders. You’re a girl. Not for you.” 😛
