what is confirmation excactly?
confirmation completes baptism. Our Lord said unless a man be born again of water and the holy Spirit he shall not have eternal life. The sacrament is fully describe in Acts 2, the account of the first Pentecost. The rite consists of the bishop (or the priest he delegates) laying hands on the candidate, invoking the Holy Spirit, and anointing with the blessed chrism oil. All three actions, which are the matter and form of the sacrament, are described in Acts several times. The sacrament, like baptism, imparts a permanent seal upon the soul, activates the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, fortitutde, piety and fear of the Lord. It completes Christian initation, which properly belongs to the bishop although it is delegated to priests at Easter (and to all priests in the Eastern rites). It strengthens the candidate to live out the demands of life in Christ.

ive always wondered why nondenominationals and baptists and church of christ and many other denominations dont have the priestly government in church. why is that? and why is it that catholics still do?
for historical, political, doctrinal and theological reasons many of the men who started these denominations rejected the Catholic interpretation of the scriptures that describe the priesthood, and reject the necessity for a sacrificial priesthood. This is because the also reject the reality of the Eucharist, the Sacrament through which all the others flow, and by means of which the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary is made present (not re-enacted, not symbolized, not done over and over again) on earth. Because they deny the reality and necessity of our participation in the sacrifice, they deny the reality of the sacrificial priesthood which makes this possible. In so doing they reject and disobey Christ’s clear command at the Last Supper to “do this in remembrance of Me.”

I’ll play along with this even though it’s pretty obvious this whole thread is a joke or a game of some kind. 👍

The “other” denominations that you are apparently referring to are all descendents of the Churches formed after the reformation. I’m sure you have heard of that, Martin Luther John Huss etc etc.? Collectively they are called Protestants. One of the mainstays of the Protestant sects is that they reject the priest class. Martin Luther, heard of him, the great seeker of truth? felt that everyman should be a priest and said that the separation of the laity and the priests was an abomination and an insult to God. So when they broke away from Rome and founded their own churches which satisfied their whims, they too rejected the Priestly class.

And just so you know, it is not just the Roman Catholic Church that still have the how did you word it Priestly Government?, The Orthodox Churches also have them, as well as all the Catholic Churches, as I’m sure you know the Roman Church is not the only catholic Church . And lets not forget the Coptic Church in Egypt and Ethiopia, two of the oldest christian churches in the world. Did I mention the Antiochan Church as well?

You see metal4, sorry I won’t add the name Jesus in such a disrespectful way, all of these churches have one thing in common. It is something called Apostolic Succession. And what that means is that they can trace their origins back to the times of the Apostles. None of the churches you mentioned can even come close to that.

It is unfortunate that in their headlong rush to distance themselves from the horrors of the Papacy, the Protestants chose to throw out such a historically and theologically correct and sustainable concept as the ordained Priesthood and apostolic succession.
sorry, but i am not “playin a game” in any way. i really really want to know these things. ive always wanted to know exaclty how the new testament church was. and since catholics are the only ones i know who actually can go back into history with these things, i figure i’d ask yall. and i really aint tryin to disrespect Jesus by using His name in my email address. sorry ok? so please dont think im playin a game by askin all these questions. i really really want to know. thanx
