Following on from another thread,

I have been watching a sea voyage doco where the narrater stopped and filmed art in old monesteries, small churches, cathedrals etc. One Church near Croatia is a pigrimage for seafarers . They pray for safe voyages, then leave silver tiles to thank the Virgin Mary for safe passage or near disaster rescue.

Some of these places were goosebumpingly spectacular.

So it got me thinking, is there , or has there been an artwork that awed or inspired you?

One monestary was only assessable by rock climbing monks, on top of a mountain. But the interior, wow. It is in Greece.
 
I saw a film the other day which featured the fresco painted onto the ceiling of The Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo and felt inspired by it.
 
John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” is beautiful, though it is religious only in an extremely universalistic sense.

A church that I’m particularly fond of (but have never seen in person) is Le Corbusier’s Notre Dame du Haut-

I also really love the Victimae Paschali Laudes sequence we sing at Easter, though my favorite adaptation is on the organ. .
