I am trying to compile a list of all “Sacred Hardware.” Anything that touches or contains the Blessed Sacrament and any hardware (not linens) that are used in the context of celebrating the Mass or Divine Liturgies. So far I have the following but I am sure there are many more:

Chalice, Paten, Ciborium, Pyx, Intinction Set, Communion Spoon, Straw, tube (fistula, fistulae), Sealed Sacred Blood Vessel (very rarely used), Communion Paten,
Aspergillum, Aspersorium/situla, Ablution cup, Water/wine Cruets, Water Spoon, Lavabo Set, Tabernacle and from the East: Diskos (paten), Asterisk, Lance, Communion Spoon, Zeon.

Any additions would be appreciated.

(I’m copying it and pasting it so we have the complete list handy)

“…anything that touches”

Most important…human hands.

When does the aspergillum come into contact with the Blessed Sacrament?

You certainly bring-up a valid point. I wanted a list of things that come into contact with the Blessed Sacrament or are required to celebrate the Eucharist. An aspergillum and a Aspersorium/situla are really not part of that.

Nor are processional torches, processional crucifixes, altar crucifixes, eucharistic canopy, introit bells, sanctus bells, bugias, thuribles, boats, thurible stands, faldstools, crosiers, mitre and bishop’s rings.

It’s difficult to draw a line. I just wanted to see what people came up with. Thanks.

Tabor [stand to place the montrance, (or ostensorium)] on (used to elevate it).

Reliquary (not placed on the altar but on a separate table), theca (lockets for relics), altar stones

I don’t know if you want to include the Sacrarium, which is used after Mass.

I believe there is also something referred to “communion tongs” that some group of monks use.

Good point. The priest’s hands are consecrated to God. There is no Eucharist without the hands of a priest.

Were you aware that Eastern Catholic/Orthodox priests’ hands are not consecrated?

The anointing of the priests hands when ordained is not only about touching the consecrated elements. The anointing of the hands is a meaningful sign of service and other sacred duties as well, blessing, anointing and administering the other sacraments.
Besides, other people’s hands touch the Blessed Sacrament…lay ministers of the Eucharist and all who receive in their hand.
