Can anyone tell me about the nine first fridays requirements for this devotion? If one misses a consecutive friday because of vacation, can the devotion be resumed and remain “valid”? thanks…
Here is a link to the devotion: catholictradition.org/Two-Hearts/devotion12.htmCan anyone tell me about the nine first fridays requirements for this devotion? If one misses a consecutive friday because of vacation, can the devotion be resumed and remain “valid”? thanks…
The enthronement is not a necessary part of devotion to the Sacred Heart at all, though it is a good idea for Catholic households.I’m considering entering this devotion, but I found that part of it envolves “enthronement” of Christ in a household by a symbolic act of placing an image of Jesus on a chair in the living room, and then the parents of the household lead the devotion.
My difficulty is I live in a Protestant household and no one would accept this. What do I do?
I’ll do the enthronement as soon as I have a house to offer. I actually did that with a website I co-authored once already, a few years ago. I was the primary creator of the website and the person in charge of all its day to day activities, so I consecrated it to God, that his will might be done in it, and that he might have complete power over it. Then I wrote insults against the Catholic Church into the other messages of the site, so I expect the site’s subsequent failure was a result. People left the site in droves because of the distractions of daily life and I too became heavily distracted because of school work and other projects and so stopped attending, and my disappearance collapsed what existed for the handful of people that remained. I had put my beloved Lord in charge, so he took the appropriate action when it became necessary. The enthronement is not a necessary part of devotion to the Sacred Heart at all, though it is a good idea for Catholic households.
Certainly one can do the nine First Fridays without the enthronement. One can also do other things - the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart, praying prayers such as the Litany of the Sacred Heart, Chaplet of the Sacred Heart, or other prayers (plenty of them to be found on the internet, just say the ones that appeal to you.)
Could you do the enthronement just for your room?I’ll do the enthronement as soon as I have a house to offer.
Of course it only has to be ONE set of nine consecutive months in which you do the First Fridays, you don’t have to do it every year. Although I must say I haven’t made it to nine in a row yet, so I just try to do as many First Fridays as I can and hope God understands. And if I ever make it to nine in a row I doubt I’m just going to stop and give up then and there.I’ll do the enthronement as soon as I have a house to offer. I have one other question. Are the Nine Consecutive Fridays supposed to be the First Fridays of 9 months of every year of my life, or only the First Fridays of 9 months of the year I begin the devotion?
It’s not necessary to say any prayers in conjunction with the Nine First Fridays. The Nine First Fridays, as per the promises to St Margaret Mary, simply consists in making communion worthily (ie in a state of grace) on the First Friday of nine consecutive months with the intention of making reparations to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. You may, of course, wish to pray additional prayers such as the Litany of the Sacred Heart, or pray a form of Consecration to the Sacred Heart, on these days.Okay. Is there any initiation practice or prayer that should preceed my participation in the First Fridays?
I don’t really think I could do the enthronement in my bedroom. It’s shared with my two Protestant brothers. I could ask, though.
