Hello,
Is the Sacred Heart mass a special liturgy? I was wondering if someone could give me some information on what it is exactly. Also, if they know how to find this mass, specifically in Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

Thanks for your help

There is a Feast of the Sacred Heart, whose mass has its own propers.

Its general celebrated in June, the exact date is determined by the date of Easter.

OK, thanks. That makes much better sense. I thought maybe it had to do something with first friday devotions.

It sort of does, in an indirect way, as first friday devotions and the feast are both concerned with devotion to the Sacred Heart.

But there isn’t any requirement in the first friday discipline that folks attend any particular mass. The priests are supposed to just say what ever mass is proper for each day. In fact, the people don’t even have to attend mass, the requirement is to receive communion on the 7 consecutive first fridays. Remember of course, Good Friday could easily be a first friday, in which case the people can’t even hear mass that day. Yet, they can still participate in this devotion.
