Recently, I’ve been reading about the various devotions of the Church and today I decided to learn about the Sacred Heart.

This devotion is amazing. In the words of Pope Pius XII:
This devotion, summarily expressed, is nothing else than devotion to the divine and human love of the Incarnate Word and to the love by which the heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit exercise their free care over sinful men. For, as the Angelic Doctor teaches, the love of the most Holy Trinity is the origins of man’s redemption; it overflowed into the human will of Jesus Christ and into his adorable Heart with full efficacy and led Him, under the impulse of that love, to pour forth His blood to redeem us from the captivity of sin.
HAURIETIS AQUAS. Paragraph 89
This devotion has deep theological foundations; it practically encompasses the whole of our faith.

As can be seen, I have started reading the above encyclical but have yet to finish it because it is so long.

I definitely think that I’m going to include this devotion to my spiritual life. I understand the theology and meaning behind it, but are there any practices that go along with it? Divine Mercy has the chaplet but what does the Sacred Heart devotion have?

If I am to begin a devotion to the Sacred Heart, is there anything that I need to do? I’m guessing that I’ll have to display the image and I know that there is a litany of the Sacred Heart but is there more to it?

As I said, I’m just learning about this devotion and I’ll probably find a website that has more details but I thought I’d share this anyway. I am looking for ways to enrich my spiritual life and I think that this may be the way to go. I considered the Divine Mercy but then I realised that this is simply an extension of the Sacred Heart; his mercy stems from his love for mankind.

Any information, advice, or (name removed by moderator)ut would be greatly appreciated.

You can have the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart done in your home.

Sacred Heart Messenger

It has always been a big Devotion in Ireland, hardly a house without a picture of the Sacred Heart, it has lessened, but many, even the young display a picture of the Sacred Heart.

There were always two pictures hanging in Irish homes, JFK and the Sacred Heart, only the Sacred Heart remains.

When I wish to pray to someone who is going through trials, I was told by a saintly Catholic friend to place this individual in the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ so that when God Our Father glances at His Beloved Son, He also sees lovingly this soul.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus has GREAT meaning to me. I keep this portrait in my living room. :byzsoc:
