Can anyone tell me please what is the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary?

Blessings,

The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary is just another way of thinking about and approaching Our Lord and Our Lady in prayer.

In human terms, we think of the heart as the center of our emotions, as the place where love dwells:

I love you with all my heart.
You’re in my heart.
Bless your heart.
My heart aches for you.

So, as we pray to Jesus and ask Mary to intercede for us, we appeal to their hearts. Jesus’ heart which is most Sacred and Holy because He is God; Mary’s heart because God spared her the stain of sin, so her heart is immaculate.

I believe it was St. Margaret Mary who received a private revelation urging this devotion. She also spoke of Jesus’ heart present in the Holy Eucharist and encouraged this prayer:

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in the Holy Eucharist, I place all my trust in you.

Paris, here are a couple of quotes from the New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia:
"…Consequently, devotion to the Sacred Heart may be defined as devotion to the adorable Heart of Jesus Christ in so far as this Heart represents and recalls His love; or, what amounts to the same thing, devotion to the love of Jesus Christ in so far as this love is recalled and symbolically represented to us by His Heart of flesh.

Hence the devotion is based entirely upon the symbolism of the heart. It is this symbolism that imparts to its meaning and its unity, and this symbolism is admirably completed by the representation of the Heart as wounded. Since the Heart of Jesus appears to us as the sensible sign of His love, the visible wound in the Heart will naturally recall the invisible wound of this love. This symbolism also explains that the devotion, although giving the Heart an essential place, is but little concerned with the anatomy of the heart or with physiology."

So, the Sacred Heart is symbolic of Christ’s love and His person.
