Looking at the samples available online via Baronius Press it appears to be close to and not yet the Douay-Rheims. Anyone know? I am referring to the new edition of the 1962 Daily Missal. Thank you.

A secondary but releated question is in regard to the effectiveness of using the DM1962 as for devotional/spiritual reading even though I am not able to attend a daily Mass in Latin.

Without having the texts directly before me, I would guess they were either the old Confraternity or the Challoner revision of the DR.

ANY scheme of Bible reading based on the liturgy of the Church should bear good spiritual fruit, don’t you think?

I was looking at online images via Baronius Press and comparing it with my Challoner D-R and there is a fair difference the the flow and sense is there. The 62 English seems newer. I have not read the Cofraternity in hand or online. Thanks for your reply.

Good question. While respecting choice made by authority I find the NAB based Breviary to be, well, it’s hardly my preference and I usually have another translation of sacred scripture in hand [RSV-CE] and read it using the Breviay references - cumbersome.

The English in the Baronius 62 Missal, from the many pages that one can see online does seem lovely. Just wondering. Thanks again.

Remember, though, that none of the English or any vernacular is official. While the English still is a prayer and most of the translations I’ve read are indeed beautiful, nevertheless the Latin is official and shouldn’t change from missal to missal.
